Studio 2024 Editor opens SDLXLIFF on one fully functional Windows 11 PC just fine and freezes on the other fully functional one

Hi,

I have a problem with an agency package. The agency's PM is RWS Trados certified.

Studio 2024 Editor opens SDLXLIFF on one fully functional Windows 11 PC just fine and freezes on the other fully functional one upon trying to open the same SDLXLIFF, which computer has had all Windows updates run and the newest version of Studio installed.

I cannot post the Editor screenshot I took as the source text is highly confidential.

Cheers,

Sebastian Witte

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details about the error you're experiencing. Are there any error messages displayed when Studio freezes? Also, have you tried any troubleshooting steps already? If so, what were they?

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Sebastian,

Based on your description, it seems like you're experiencing an issue with Trados Studio 2024 on one of your Windows 11 PCs. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Ensure that your Trados Studio 2024 is up-to-date. You can check for updates within the application.

Step 2: Try to reset your Trados Studio settings. You can do this by going to "File" > "Setup" > "Reset" in the Trados Studio application.

Step 3: If the problem persists, you might want to consider reinstalling Trados Studio 2024. Before you do this, make sure to back up any important data.

Step 4: If none of the above steps work, you might want to consider upgrading to a later version of Trados Studio, as the context suggests that the issue you're experiencing might be resolved in SDL Trados Studio 2021 SR1 (16.1.4.4184) and later versions.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

I wonder what you are expecting here?  You have proven the package works on one computer, but not on another.  So this suggests that the package is probably fine or it would fail on both computers.

Without any sort of guidance... error messages, sample files etc. I'm not sure anyone can really help properly, but it does look more like an environmental issue.

Incidentally when you reject the answer the idea would be to provide more info on why so that the AI could have another go.  But if you cannot do this then don't expect much help from anyone else either!

Only suggestion I could make is look at where the project is being stored.  If one is on a shared folder, or both, but one has a poor connection, then the freezing could be related to synching issues.  Working with files on a OneDrive folder for example, that has not been set up to ensure you are not having to download the files every time you need to open it could be the reason for freezing.  Just because you can see the files in File Explorer doesn't mean they are really there when you use OneDrive folders.

  • Hi Paul, Thanks very much for your reply. Maybe I have to submit a support ticket. The package is not stored on a shared drive. Cheers, Sebastian

  • There is no error message to share.

  •  Trados Studio 2024 is up-to-date. I don't wish to reset my Studio settings as I might lose important ones I will then be unable to recover. Reinstalling Studio is only a last resort for me. I will see if I can install SR2. I figured installing the latest Studio update automatically gets me the latest Service Release, which seems to not be the case.

  • I can find neither SR1 nor SR 2 in our RWS account.

There is no SR1 or SR2 for 2024 yet.  My suggestion would be that you investigate not the package, but where your project is created.  If you have used the default location for your projects then it is almost certainly going to be on OneDrive.  And if it is then whether you think so or not, this is a shared drive even if it's only shared with yourself.  In this case you can either use a different, non-OneDrive location for your projects, or learn a bit about how to manage OneDrive and ensure that the files and folders for Trados Studio at least are always available.

If the problem is this, then you can upgrade as much as you like and the situation will not change.  So my advice would be to really make sure you have addressed this properly before you start looking at more drastic solutions, and potentially never getting anywhere anyway.

  • Support Agent Iulia just fixed it during a remote session. My wife is logged into our RWS Cloud account, so it works on her computer, while I was not, so it didn't on mine. Now that I am logged into our Cloud account it works: I can access all TUs in both SDLXLIFFs.

  • "The issue was fixed by going to Project Settings -> All Language Pairs-> Termbases and connecting to the Cloud account, as the package had Cloud-based terminology added."
