Path denied

Hello,

I work with Trados 2017 and I have a plugin that I use to get my work from another website.

Since recently, I can't save or upload my work anymore. An error window pop up saying “access to path..... is denied”.

I have no ideas how to fix this.

I have added the link location of the file to the exceptions from my antivirus security program. But it doesn't help.

Can someone help?

Thank you very much

Frederique

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details such as the exact error message, the steps you took before encountering the issue, the specific plugin you're using, and any recent changes to your system or Trados Studio. Also, mention the version of your operating system.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Frederique,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with access permissions. Here are some steps you can try:

Step 1: Ensure that Trados Studio 2017 and the plugin you're using are allowed through your firewall. This can usually be done in the firewall settings of your operating system.

Step 2: Add exceptions to your antivirus for specific Trados Studio folders. The folders to add to your antivirus's allow list or exclusion list include: C:\Program Files (x86)\Trados, C:\Users\%USERNAME%\App Data\Local\Temp, C:\Program Data\Package Cache\Trados, C:\Program Data\Trados, C:\Users\%USERNAME%\App Data\Local\Trados, and C:\Users\%USERNAME%\App Data\Roaming\Trados.

Step 3: Try running Trados Studio as an administrator. You can do this by right-clicking on the Trados Studio icon and selecting 'Run as administrator'.

If the issue persists, it might be related to the specific plugin you're using. In that case, you might want to contact the plugin provider for further assistance.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

I note you unverified the AI response so presumably found the answer unhelpful... which is fair enough.  It's a bit tricky to answer though based on what you have said... you have a very old version of Trados Studio and we don't know anything about the plugin you're using.  Here's a few possible reasons for the problem... again coming from an AI solution:

The "access to path... is denied" error can sometimes be tricky, but there are a few steps you can try that may resolve the issue:

    1. Check File Permissions:

      • Right-click the file or folder in question, select Properties, then go to the Security tab. Ensure your user account has the necessary permissions (e.g., Read, Write, or Modify).
      • If permissions seem correct, try running Trados Studio as an administrator to see if that makes a difference.
    2. Check for File Locks:

      • Sometimes, files can remain locked by another process. Tools like Process Explorer can help identify which application might be holding the file.
    3. Antivirus and Security Software:

      • While you mentioned adding the file location to your antivirus exceptions, some security tools may still block files if they detect unusual behaviour. Temporarily disabling the antivirus (just for testing) might confirm if this is the cause.
    4. Check the File Path:

      • Ensure the file path isn't excessively long or contains special characters that may cause issues.
    5. Plugin Compatibility:

      • Since you're using Trados 2017, it's possible that a recent update to the plugin or the source website introduced changes. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may want to check if there's an updated version of the plugin available to go alongside an update version of Trados Studio.

I'd check the file locks first... but I suppose any of these answers could be valid.
