XML error happened to me to

Hi,

Yesterday, I did not manage to close down Trados properly, and today I received this error message:

Failed to load project from ´C\Users\svanb\OneDrive\Desktop\Project 3\Project 3.sdlproj´: There is an error in XML document (1549,39). Unexpected end of file while parsing Name has occurred. Line 1549, position 39.

PS: I have encountered difficulties to close Trados before many times, but never have this happened before. I cannot open Trados at all neither by clicking on Trados on my desktop, neither by clicking on different sdlppx files.

Thank you so much in advance!

Best regards,

Karin

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the version of Trados Studio you are using and your operating system. Also, let us know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps already.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Karin,

It seems like your Trados Studio project file (*.sdlproj) might have been corrupted due to the improper shutdown of the software. Here's how you can try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Navigate to the location of the *.sdlproj file. The location is disclosed in the error message you received, in your case, it's 'C:\Users\svanb\OneDrive\Desktop\Project 3\Project 3.sdlproj'.

Step 2: Delete the *.sdlproj file. Please ensure to back up any important data before you do this.

Step 3: Start Trados Studio again.

Step 4: Recreate the project and include the original translation memory.

Step 5: Run the batch task 'Pre-Translate' to add all your translations back into your file(s).

If you're unsure about how to run the 'Pre-Translate' batch task, you can find instructional videos on the RWS AppStore.

If this doesn't resolve your issue, it would be helpful to know the exact version of Trados Studio you're using and any recent changes you've made to your system.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Hello,
Thank you for saving me. I forgot to write I have Trados 2019 and my operating system is Windows 11 Home. I will probably loose everything I have done so far because I did not do a backup. I have found a  folder on my desktop called "Project 3", and when I open the folder I find the "Project 3.sdlproj (here  under at the printscreen).
Screenshot of a Windows file explorer showing folders named 'it-IT', 'Reports', 'sv-SE', and a file named 'Project 3.sdlproj'. All items have a green checkmark indicating synced status.
When I opened the subfoler (here above) named sv-SE I noticed a file that was not supposed to be there so I deleted it, but this was not enough to be able to open Trados, so I will have to delete all of these above, right? Everything that is in the Project 3 folder on my desktop?
Would you recommend  this youtube video (see here under) in order to learn how to pre-translate?
Thank you so much in advance again for your precious help!!!!!
    Kind regards,
    Karin

It’s not clear to me if the issue is solved or not.

You can make a backup right now. It’s a matter of copying the files of that project3 and pasting them somewhere else just in case you need them later. If your TM is working fine, just connect it to the new Trados Studio project, and by default it’ll be used to pre-translate (no need to use G4T as shown in the video).

Anyway, having resources under OneDrive is asking for problems, that may be the reason why the project file (sdlproj) got corrupt. You can find more information about this if you search for OneDrive in this forum. For example, you can have a look at this post: Problem with pre-translate - "The translation memory data file is corrupt"
