Trados Studio 2022 (v.17.2.12.19268) keeps crashing when opening

Trados 2022 stopped opening, I tried repair on control panel, restart, changing the names of the folders Studio in AppData Roaming and Local. It does not work.

The Event Viewe shows following:

Screenshot of an event viewer with three error entries. All errors occurred on 07042025 at 1:38:59 am. Two errors are labeled as 'Application Error' and one as '.NET Runtime'. Event IDs are 1000 and 1026.

What should I do? I fear uninstalling the program as I am afraid to lose large files I am working on.

"Question improvement suggestion": The question is quite detailed, but it would be helpful to know if there were any recent changes to the system or software before the issue started occurring. Also, it would be beneficial to know the operating system and its version.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

I understand that you're experiencing issues with Trados Studio 2022 not opening. You've already tried repairing the installation and renaming the folders in AppData, which are good initial troubleshooting steps.

Based on the error message you provided, it seems like there might be an issue with the KERNELBASE.dll file. This is a Windows system file, and issues with it can sometimes cause applications to crash.

Here are a few more steps you can try:

Step 1: Run a System File Checker (SFC) scan. This is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator, type "sfc /scannow", and press Enter.

Step 2: If the SFC scan doesn't solve the issue, you can try a DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) scan, which can fix Windows corruption errors. To do this, open Command Prompt as an administrator, type "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth", and press Enter.

Step 3: If the issue persists, you might want to consider a clean installation of Trados Studio. Before doing this, make sure to back up all your important files and projects. You can export your projects and settings from Trados Studio to ensure you don't lose any data.

Please note that these steps involve system-level operations that should be performed with caution. If you're not comfortable performing these steps, or if these steps don't resolve the issue, you might want to consider seeking assistance from a professional IT service.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

Understood... but you will need to do this to at least know if the problem is more serious.  If you do the following you will not touch any of your translation work, translation resources (TMs, TBs etc.).  You will just reset the product so any smaller problems are cleared allowing Trados Studio to restart.

To do this just close Trados Studio and then rename this folder:

    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17\

    to c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17_old\

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

Then restart Trados Studio and see if that helped.
