Review of Trados export in Excel?

Hello everyone,

One of my clients would like to proofread a translation before the final publication. The translated source file comes in Word format. Now I have told him about the “Export for bilingual review” function using Word, but the customer only wants to (or can only) proofread in Excel format.

Is there a way to provide him with my translation for correction in Excel? More importantly, is there a way to import his corrections back into my Trados project (similar to the Retrofit method)?

I am thinking of a detour à la: I use the batch task “Export for bilingual review”, then copy the columns for the customer to Excel, where he can then continue working. But how does the customer have to correct in Excel so that I can “quickly” import his corrections back into Trados later? He seems to hate the "Track Changes" method and Word, so I'm looking for another way ... ;-)

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I'm working with Trados 2024.

Thank you and best regards

Judith

You can export to Excel... there is an app for that in the appstore.  However, you cannot import back in again.  You could convert the Excel to an SDLTM easily enough with the Glossary Converter, and then preranslate your original project with the updates and force Trados to overwrite each one.  Or more cautiously use the Translate to Fuzzy feature in Studio with the new TM (so be sure to disable your own for this exercise) so that it stops at every translation that is different in the TM to the one you had.  Then you can check and confirm each one before re-enabling your own TM and updating that as well.

I created a video (live and no practice so forgive the content) to demonstrate the process... hope it helps:
