Create a keyboard shortcut for accented uppercase

Hi,

I use Trados 2017. Before, I had a laptop with a numerci keypad allowing me to use the Unicode shortcuts for the accented uppercases (À, É) and for Ç and Œ, but I have a new laptop without numeric keypad, and with a keyboard not allowing me to use shortcuts for these.

I would like to know if someone knows if I can create any shortcut for them directly in Trados instead of having to go through Add a symbol.

Thanks a lot for your help! Slight smile

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about the operating system you are using, as the process may vary depending on it. Also, it would be helpful to know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps already.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

You can create keyboard shortcuts for special characters in Trados Studio 2017. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to "File" -> "Options".

Step 2: In the Options window, navigate to "Editor" -> "Keyboard Shortcuts".

Step 3: In the Keyboard Shortcuts window, you can see a list of commands for which you can create shortcuts.

Step 4: To create a new shortcut, click on the "New" button.

Step 5: In the "New Shortcut" window, select the command for which you want to create a shortcut. In your case, you can create a shortcut for the "Insert Symbol" command.

Step 6: After selecting the command, click on the "Keys" field and press the keys that you want to use as a shortcut.

Step 7: Click on the "Assign" button to assign the shortcut to the command.

Step 8: Click "OK" to close the windows and save your changes.

Please note that this method allows you to create a shortcut for the "Insert Symbol" command, which will open the "Insert Symbol" window where you can select the special character you want to insert. If you frequently use certain special characters, you might find it more convenient to use a tool like AutoHotkey to create shortcuts that directly insert these characters.
