None of the above help - the User Settings path provided is incorrect, but even if I get to that file, it seems that it contains the correct User ID.

Make sure you can see your desired ID there.

Thank you for your reply! Actually, since yesterday I managed to change something that made Trados use the ID I wanted it to use... I was searching for ways to find what User IDs are stored on my PC hoping and I came across some Microsoft forum post which advised to do the following to find the User IDs: "If you are logged into the PC, Windows Key+R > Type netplwiz and Enter. This will show you all User IDs of the computer whether Microsoft account or Local accounts." As suspected, it was showing my old user name, but since I was able to type in that field, I risked it and changed it... My PC behaved a bit strange after that (some apps did not open, Settings did not open either), but all went to normal after a reboot). Most importantly, when I opened Studio, it made me go through setting up a profile again, but after tat, it started using my chosen ID. When I navigated to TM User ID in Project settings just now as you suggested, I can still see my old ID at the top under Name (greyed out), but the user ID at the bottom is the new one I chose and it seems that it is now actively using it, even though the user name it the old one.

Thanks for sharing your solution.  I am wondering how this got into this state in the first place.  Did you change the display name for your windows account after Studio was installed... or something like that?  "netplwiz" will allow you to change the displayname, which Trados Studio will use.  Installing 2024 will have triggered a fresh user profile setup, which would re-read your Windows account information, and this might have exposed an old or unwanted user name that had previously been hidden or overridden in your old setup.

Just wondering as this is an odd one, but would be good to understand how it might have got like this in the first place.

I may be the odd one, yes,  although the fact that Windows 11 automatically assigns a username based on the first 5 letter of your Microsoft account (or whatever) is apparently the rule now (a ridiculous one I think, as I want to have the control over how my account and my main user folder on my PC are called without having to fiddle with registry keys!).

To answer your question - it all happened when I got a new laptop and installed Trados on it. When I realized  that the Trados ID was somehow linked with the automatically assigned Windows User ID and that changing it within Trados Setup did not work, what I did was reinstall Windows completely, then changed the Windows User name and user folder name and only then installed Trados. I was sure it would have solved the problem since as far as I knew the ID was changed, so Trados would use the new user ID upon a fresh install. Apparently, however, Trados still pulled the old ID name from somewhere else other than the Registry key or the folder name I had changed. I had no idea where else the old user name could be still saved (my IT knowledge is very basic, really), and in an attempt to try and find it, I came across that "netplwiz" command and seeing my old name there, I just changed it...

Not sure if this makes any sense, but I was happy to share in case it helps someone somewhere in the future!

Thanks for the detail, and yes it absolutely makes sense.  Windows' behaviour with account creation on new machines does seem a bit unhelpful.  Good catch, and thanks for documenting it.  Might save someone else from the same headache!
