TB Search Setting: Display synonyms separately in Term Recognition view

Hi everyone

There seem to be new TB Search Settings in Trados Studio 2024 compared to 2022:

Trados 2022:

Trados Studio 2022 settings window showing search settings with options like minimum match value, search depth, and term repetition threshold.

Trados 2024:

Trados Studio 2024 settings window with an additional option 'Display synonyms separately in Term Recognition view' highlighted in the search settings.

I tried to figure out, what the option "Display synonyms seperately in Term Recognition view" brings. However, I wasn't able to spot any difference in displaying the terms:

Activated:

Trados Studio editor view with 'Display synonyms separately in Term Recognition view' enabled, showing synonyms listed separately in the Term Recognition panel.

Deactivated:

Trados Studio editor view with 'Display synonyms separately in Term Recognition view' disabled, showing synonyms grouped together in the Term Recognition panel.

Has anybody used this feature and could explain what the difference is?

Many thanks

Seraina

  • Hi   and   ,

This option refers to source synonyms. In the past, Studio showed only one of the matching synonyms in a sentence. Even if there happened to be a (source) term that was a synonym of the matching entry, it was not shown separately.

This is probably best explained with an example. Consider that I have one entry (concept) in MultiTerm with the source synonym terms "location" and "position", both with the translation "Ort" (not the best example but bear with me :)) Without the synonym box ticked, only "location" is shown in the term recognition window, although "position" is also in the same sentence:

Trados Studio interface showing term recognition with highlighted synonyms 'location' and 'position' translated as 'Ort' in German.

With the option turned on, both synonyms will be displayed separately:

Trados Studio interface displaying term recognition with both synonyms 'location' and 'position' highlighted and translated as 'Ort' in German.

I hope this clears things up. This implementation was based on an idea from the community which we were able to implement.

    Thanks
