This option refers to source synonyms. In the past, Studio showed only one of the matching synonyms in a sentence. Even if there happened to be a (source) term that was a synonym of the matching entry, it was not shown separately.

This is probably best explained with an example. Consider that I have one entry (concept) in MultiTerm with the source synonym terms "location" and "position", both with the translation "Ort" (not the best example but bear with me :)) Without the synonym box ticked, only "location" is shown in the term recognition window, although "position" is also in the same sentence:

With the option turned on, both synonyms will be displayed separately:

I hope this clears things up. This implementation was based on an idea from the community which we were able to implement.

I was also confused with this option, so just to add to what Daniel has clarified, which was very helpful.

Before this option you would see something like this:

1. terms, including source synonyms, are recognised in the editor
2. you can see them all in the Termbase Viewer as well
3. you DO NOT see the synonyms in the Term Recognition

With the new option you get this:

So now we have consistency across all three views.
