Retrieving TUs to use in a differently segmented file

Hello,

I was initially provided a 40k word PDF to translate, which I did.
However, the segmentation was awkward, making the translation challenging.
I now have a cleaner Word file for the same project, but the segmentation in Studio is very different, making it almost impossible to use the TM entries. I have attached screenshots to illustrate.
So while I have all safely translated, I'm unable to pretranslate the entire file (even with lowering the match to 50%).

I can not really use the merge feature either because plenty of segments don't follow each other logically.
I started copying and pasting, but I can't reasonably do this for 40k words.

Can anyone save me on this pleeeaaase?

PS I forgot to mention this is due ...tonight :(((

I don’t think I advised you to do that. You’re just propagating the problem instead of fixing it. You’ll never get away from the effort involved if you don’t sort the source out.

Nevertheless… what version of Studio are you using?

I’d be happy to try and help you recover your target if you send me your translated sdlxliff and the source file you have? You can email pfilkin at SDL dotcom

  • Hi

    I work with Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.2.6370

I've finally managed to sort the issues out.I used 2 steps:

    1. I switched off the validation of SDLXLIFF in my project settings, so all these error types disappeared (as indicated in the post I mentioned in my previous message).

    2. I modified the core file to delete the below message. When I say "I", I actually mean my husband, who happens to be a software engineer (and this helps!!). He "simply" deleted a couple of tags from the file (thorse mentionned in the error message below), and strangely enough, this solved the issue without affecting the target file.

Error message in Trados Studio indicating 'L'illustration shape name=50322099 a t d plac e entre les paragraphes' for file ChadDiagnosticv2.docx.sdlxliff.

That being said, I must say I don't understand what happened and any of those messages.

So, I did send you the corrupted sdlxliff and the source PDF so we can possibly try to understand what occurred here.

    Thank you  !
