Trados Studio 2014 will not start

This is my first time on the forum, so please be gentle with me.

I've been working very happily with Studio 2014 SP2 on Windows 10 for several months, but I'm now unable to use the software at all, as it will no longer start up.

When I try to start it, everything initially seems fine, the licence is recognised etc. but then, before the software even opens up, I receive the following error:

Service 'Sdl.TranslationStudio.AlignmentEditor.IAlignmentEditorService' could not be started.

From what I can tell, the problem seems to have started since a recent automatic Windows 10 update. Unfortunately, I was not aware that restore points in Windows 10 have to be activated (which I have now done), so I am unable to undo this update.

I'd be very grateful for any thoughts or advice.

    I woke up this morning to the exact same issue. Windows apparently updated itself overnight and since then, I have been getting the same error message.

    I've been through all of the suggested fixes and - nothing helps.

    I've deleted the Windows updates, and still nothing.

    I've uninstalled and reinstalled SDL Studio 2014 four times so far, and still nothing.

    I am at an absolute loss.

    I've logged a case in the Knowledge Base but I can't really afford to wait until they get to it - if they get to it. It says it's only medium priority for them, which is all very well but it's absolute top priority for me.

    Are there any other suggestions other than the above that might work?
