error when analysing XML in Trados Studio 2024 SR1 and "Report internal fuzzy match leverage" is checked

Hi community members

I get a reproducable error when batch-processing a single XML file whenever I check the option "Report internal fuzzy match leverage" on the analyse tab. Error type is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

If I uncheck the option, the analyse job runs correctly without error or warning.

XML has a custom filetype and is wellformed. If I use filetype XML Any, the error won't occur. Other XML files of the same file type/from the same source don't produce the error.

Version is Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.2.6370.

While examining the error, I have split the XML file several times. The error occurred with some of the split files. Now I have stripped down the xml to the minumum to reproduce the error.

The error does not occur in Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.11.19134

I have attached a minimized Studio 2024 project including the error message stored as XML

3617.Project 1.zip

Your/any help is very welcome!

Greetings

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact error message and any relevant screenshots or logs to help diagnose the issue more effectively.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Victor,

Thank you for sharing the details of the issue you're experiencing with Trados Studio 2024 SR1. It seems that the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" occurs specifically when the "Report internal fuzzy match leverage" option is checked during the analysis of your XML file. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    **Step 1:** Verify XML Structure

Ensure that your XML file is well-formed and does not contain any invalid structures or entities. You can use a text editor like Notepad++ to check for missing closing tags or unescaped special characters.

**Step 2:** Test with Different File Types

Since you mentioned that the error does not occur when using the "XML Any" file type, consider creating a new custom file type based on the working XML Any settings. This may help in identifying if the issue is related to the specific custom file type you are using.

    **Step 3:** Check for Updates

Make sure that you are using the latest version of Trados Studio 2024. Check for any available updates within the application, as updates often include bug fixes that may resolve your issue.

    **Step 4:** Reset Trados Settings

If the problem persists, consider resetting your Trados settings. This can sometimes resolve unexpected behavior in the software.

    **Step 5:** Workaround

As a temporary workaround, you can continue to analyze the XML file without checking the "Report internal fuzzy match leverage" option, or use the XML Any file type for analysis until a fix is available.

If you continue to experience issues, please provide any additional error messages or logs that may help in diagnosing the problem further.
