Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.2.6370 - Error: “Not enough disk space on C:\”.

I have Trados Studio 2024, and it stopped working with an error message saying that there is not enough space on the C:\ drive. I deleted many temporary and unnecessary files to free up space, but it still didn’t work. Is it possible to run Trados from the D:\ drive instead? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide more details about the current disk space situation and any specific steps you've already taken to resolve the issue.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello!

Step 1: First, ensure that you have indeed cleared enough space on your C:\ drive. You can check the available disk space by right-clicking on the C:\ drive in File Explorer and selecting 'Properties'.

Step 2: If you still encounter the "Not enough disk space" error, you can try running Trados Studio from the D:\ drive. To do this, you will need to change the default file location for your projects.

Step 3: Open Trados Studio and navigate to 'File' > 'Setup' > 'Locations'.

Step 4: In the 'Download path for cloud projects' field, click the 'Browse' button and select an empty folder on your D:\ drive.

Step 5: Click 'OK' to save the changes. This should direct Trados Studio to save your project files to the new location on the D:\ drive.

Step 6: If you continue to experience issues, consider checking for any temporary files or system files that may still be occupying space on your C:\ drive. You can use the Disk Cleanup tool to help with this.

Question improvement suggestion: Specify if you are experiencing any issues running Trados Studio with the current disk space or if you are just inquiring about the minimum requirements.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello!

Step 1: Based on the requirements for Trados Studio 2024, you need at least 2 GB of available disk space to run the application. With 6.04 GB available on your C:\ drive, you meet this requirement.

Step 2: Additionally, having 620 GB on your D:\ drive is more than sufficient for storing projects and files.

Step 3: If you are not experiencing any issues with the current disk space, you should be able to run Trados Studio 2024 without any problems.

Step 4: However, if you encounter any errors related to disk space, consider checking for temporary files or other unnecessary data that may be occupying space on your C:\ drive.

I have 6,04 GB of space in C

6 GB in the C drive is very little space indeed. If you can move large files to D, that will help. You may try to free space in the Recycle Bin as well, mainly old & big files.

This problem does not have anything to do with Trados Studio itself. The problem is Windows. It requires much more free space on a hard disk. When updates are installed, Windows may require up to 20 GB free space.

Follow the advice from   and move all your working files (sdlxliff, Word and anything else) to drive D:\

When done, type "Disk Cleanup" in your search bar in Windows. This will start a smart tool, allowing you to remove unnecessary files from drive C:\
After start of this tool click "Clean up system files":

Disk Cleanup window showing options to delete files, including downloaded program files, temporary internet files, and more. 'Clean up system files' button is highlighted.

Chose disk C:\ and wait for the computer to finish the calculation.

Disk Cleanup window showing selected options for file deletion, including Windows Update Cleanup and temporary internet files. Total space to be freed is 9.52 GB.

Select all categories and press OK. This should free enough space for your PC to run.

Otherwise ask a technician to change the partitioning of your hard drive.
