Dear All,
I have translated a large file and finalized it so my TM is up to date. However, I cannot open the generated target or export file based on my translation.
I then tried to import the translatable file (after having renamed it), in order to retranslate it based on my TM, but this gives the same result.
All tips are welcome!

These warnings should not result in the problem you are facing at the moment. Not sure about the tag order thing. If you had overlapping tags like <a>text<b>text</a>text</b>text, not sure what that would do with your target file. But I don't think this is what we are looking for.
When you merged segments over paragraph boundaries there was most probably a warning, that this may damage the file structure. If such segments contain illustration, field or similar tag, merging these segments renders the file unusable. Please do the following:

The one thing you can try is to convert the source file to some other format like RTF, translate that (you have the translations in your TMs already), then create the target RTF, then convert that to DOCX. Or use the OpenOffice file format.

I sent it to you and I am currently testing the procedure proposed by Jerzy, as the other simpler workaround (simply using another file type) didn't work
Thank you. Source file can be translated with DeepL and generates a proper Word file, opening with no problems. Please check my e-mail. I hope we'll be able to solve your problem in the proposed way. Do not get me wrong, but I'm certainly faster in doing that

From what you say I conclude that there is a corrupt TU in the TM that inserted the 0x02 character?
As I've had similar cases before, I think this is very likely. For example a user name with & sign in it did cause trouble in sdlxliff files in the past. However, I did not see this problem since at least before the pandemic, but I suppose it was even longer before. Nonetheless, this is really very likely.

The reason for the problem was most certainly merging of segments. There were fn-tags in many segments, but just at the beginning. This did not change the file structure. However, in one case a merged segment would contain such tag in the beginning and at the end. I did not merge that far and left the last fn-tag alone in segment. It was preceeded by a French quotation mark, which I moved to a segment before and deleted in the target segment. Now the file saves and opens properly in Word.
This again shows, how important it is to know when to merge and when not. What is also important: when merging over paragraph boundaries, NEVER merge segments with picture, field or similar tags. Usually these are single tags, not tag pairs. When merging, always test target file creation and the ability to open that target file. Another important hint is not to merge in formats you cannot check, like xml. This forum is not suitable for explaining that further, but I think I will do a recording with RWS on merging and editing in complicated situations. This is not witchcraft, but needs some magic
