Deleting multiple translation units from translation memory

Greetings!

Some years ago an employee of mine aligned an Icelandic law with its official English translation and imported the result into our main translation memory. This translation is now obsolete and I want to search for and delete all the imported translation units.

I have gone through a long and convoluted session with Chat GPT, which returned lots of suggestions but no results. All the translation units are identified by a "field value" (in this case "act no. xx/yyyy") but I cannot seem to search the memory using this field

Can anyone point me in the direction of an article or video that explains this process of cleaning a translation memory?

I am using Trados Studio 2021 Freelance.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

  •  Hi

When writing into a TM, usually a unique user name is assigned to every user.

If you can find out the user name of the employee who saved the Translation Units (TU) to the TM, you can filter for all the TUs created on this specific date by this specific user and delete them from the TM.

    1. Find out the employees user name (you can see it e.g. when opening a TM in the TM view and selecting one TU saved by the specific employee)

Trados Studio interface showing Translation Memories with language pairs and a search filter for 'Obsolete law'. Highlighted areas include 'Open', 'Created by', and 'Created on' fields.

    2. Filter for the TUs created by the specific user AND on the specific date.

Trados Studio interface with Translation Memories and a filter setup. Highlighted areas include 'Open', filter icon, 'Add' button, and 'Created by' field with a dropdown for value input.

    3. Mark the TUs you want to do delet for deletion and Comit the changes (you could also delet them by a Batch Edit > in this case you don't have the possibility to check/select the TUs you want to delet as they will be deleted automatically).

Trados Studio interface displaying a filter for Translation Units. Highlighted areas include 'Mark TU for Deletion', 'Commit Changes', and filter conditions for 'Created by' and 'Created on'.

There may be several other options.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck
