Unable to view target in Word and to export into Word

Hi everybody,

I am a rather new user of SDL Trados Studio, version 2009 (SP3). I am translating a *.docx.sdlxliff package and have a problem with viewing the target text in Word format. When pressing “View Target” I receive an error message (literally translated from Finnish): “Undefined name status: w Row 1, section 2.” The origin of the error is “File Writing”.

I am also unable to export the file into Word format for the delivery to my customer.

Thank you for your assistance for solving this problem.

Kind regards,

Mirva

  • Hi Mirva,

Studio 2009 is a little old by now, not supported for quite some time, and this error could be due to a number of things.  So I would suggest the following approach.

First, open the original source file again and see if you can immediately save it without translating anything at all.  If you can then you should add your TM, pre-translate the file, and then save as target.  If you can't then it may be that Studio 2009 just can't deal with the source file.

So if the latter, and if you've finished the translation already you can send me the source file, and your fully translated sdlxliff file, and I'll see whether I can recover the translation for you with a more up to date version of the software.

    Regards

    Paul

  • You may also want to test the behavior of a DOC file, stored from the DOCX. This and also a try to open the file in OpenOffice and then resave as Word may be helpful.

  • Dear Jerzy,

sorry for the late reply. This problem occurred already for a second time, but now I had more time to work it out. I would like to give a special thanks to you!! The reason for the problem was precisely the DOCX format, which my Trados version was not able to recognize. My customer was kind to compile a new package with a DOC version and I was now able to view the file in Word. Problem solved - many thanks for your help!
