I've just implemented that solution, but with one variant: I didn't open a single-file project, and instead, I opened a New Folder in the existing project, and I input to it the renamed backup file. It is important *beforehand* to update the Main and Project memories using the initial, i.e. "retrofitted" SDLXLIFF file. And when pretranslating the "salvaged" SDLXLIFF file, select the "Always overwrite existing translation" radio button, and check the "Overwrite perfect match translations" box. Set the Minimum Match at something like 95%. In any event, some translated segments may need tinkering, to insert tags and so on. It is wise to perform checks to see whether all the segments have been translated, and whether the "retrofit" changes have been implemented in the "salvaged" SDLXLIFF target segments.
