Is there a way to split a sdltm?

Hello people, 
 
 We have got a several different machine translations memories(.sdltm) that's huge at least 180.000 different segments. 
 the problem is when people that work in our place using our sdltms it take to long time to Pre-translate the projects against our translation memories 
 I wonder if there is a way to split a sdltm/ is there another solution to handle a huge sdltm?

Just to close this off and for all interested forum members: the files treated in these projects are all XML files converted using a custom XML filter. We identified as a main potential cause the fact that the parser rules of the custom XML file type were not optimal (i.e. they did not have a //* XPath rule). 
The customer will now try to review and further optimize the parser rules.

Hi Daniel, 180k TUs isn't huge... but perhaps you can use Project TMs when you create your projects? This way the TMs are smaller and more specific. One other question, are you sharing a filebased TM between many translators as opposed to using a server based TM? Regards Paul

 Maybe also worth noting that if you still wish to split the TM then in addition to using the Batch Edit features in Studio you could use SDLTmConvert and create a bunch of TMX files that can then be upgraded to SDLTM again:

ok - then probably the advice from Adrian is going to be your best bet as there must be some environment issues for you preventing faster access.
