Problems with termbases in Studio 2014, "general massive catastrophic system failure"

Studio does not connect to existing termbases any more (terminology recognition does not work any more). It also refuses to accept a termbase when I create a project, reporting a "general massive catastrophic system failure". I can still work with translation memories but not with my termbases any more. I had upgraded to Windows 10 recently, but Studio worked fine with it in the beginning. Can anybody help?

  • Hi Walter,
To clarify the matter, my issue was indeed not a missing SP1 of Windows 7. Radu managed to solve my problem in an intensive remote support session as follows:

"The solution in our case was the following one :
    - Close SDL Trados Studio and go to the following path:
For Studio 2014 go to C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\11.0.0.0
    - Rename settings.xml to settings.xml.old
    - Restart SDL Trados Studio and try again.

Unfortunately Settings.xml file used by Studio had duplicate data. I suspect that this happened after you upgraded to Windows 10 and perhaps Studio crashed > which caused the settings.xml to store invalid data."

    I hope this information helps.

    Best regards,
    Werner
