I cannot create the target version of my Word file out of SDL Trados Studio 2015.

I cannot create the target version of my Word file out of SDL Trados Studio 2015. What is the problem?
This is the error message I get: "The 'w:fldSimple' start tag on line 1 position 1315 does not match the end tag of 'w:p'. Line 2, position 5"
Thanks for help!

  • Hi Nicole,

I guess my immediate reaction would be that you run a verification in the editor view (F8) and see if this finds your tag problem.  But I reckon you have done this already, so the problem is more likely to be the file.  Can you please try two things :

    1. Open the original word file in Studio as a new single file project and immediately save the target.  If it works then I would pre-translate from your TM and save it again.  Thaty often resolves an issue where something may have happened to the sdlxliff you are currently working on.
    2. If the first idea didn't help then go to your File -> Options and deactivate the Word filter you are using (if it's a DOCX... if it's a DOC the solution might be to save it as a DOCX) and activate the other DOCX filter below it called "Microsoft Word 2007 - 2016".  Then try to repeat 1. but this time using this new filtype for MSWord.

If neither of these work would you be able to share your original source file and the translated sdlxliff so I can take a look?

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,
    I tried all this.
The verification run finds a lot of "mistakes" which aren't mistakes. (E.g. "number removed" because the translation of "W1" ist actually "A1" and not "W1"...) But I can't find my tag problem...

I opened my file in a single file project but when I tried to save the target I got several "validation errors": "There is a duplicate key sequence...".
I opened a renamed copy of my original document in my original project, made a pretranslation and tried to save the target. Then I got the same tag error message as with my original file.

I activated "Microsoft Word 2007 - 2016" and deactivated all the other Word formats (my file is a docx) but it still didn't work.

I could share my documents with you personally but not in the community. It would be great if you could have a look at it! How could I send you these files?

    Best regards
    Nicole
  • Hi Nicole,

You can send this to me at pfilkin@sdl.com If it's really large best to use dropbox or similar. I may not look at this until tomorrow though... hope that's ok?

  • Hi Paul,

the original Word document is a documerge document full of formatting: 30 MB!
I'm not allowed to send it to any cloud-based thing such as drop box or similar :-(
Is it worth just sending the sdlxliff document?
    Tomorrow is okay for me.

    Have a nice evening

  • Hi Nicole,

I think it's unlikely the sdlxliff on its own will allow me to investigate this... but you never know, it has been known that the sdlxliff will just work correctly on another machine. If the problem is with the file (problem for Studio or otherwise) then the only way to resolve it is to test the file. You could do this yourself by doing the following:

    1. Copy the Word file into a new folder
    2. Open it and split the file in two, saving each half as separate files.
    3. Test the two halves and see which one causes a problem.
    4. Take the one that caused the problem and split it again, then test these two halves.
    5. Repeat this process until you get down to a single page that won't save.
    6. Break up that page to find the part of the page that causes the issue.

It may even be easier to just find the page and then remove it. Translate the file and then put the page back and translate it manually. But it's helpful for us to be able to identify the problem. If you can get it down to a single page then maybe you can anonymise it and send us that page?

  • Hi Paul,

when I split the document, I always get several of these validation errors at line xx offset yy.
When I untick the feature Validate SDLXLIFF documents before reading, I get the error messsage "An item with the same key has already been added" when saving the file. This happens to every chapter. I don't think I can find anything like this :-(

As it is a merged filed out of docuglobe, I think, this could also be a problem.
And I have an index in my file and the client told me to translate it. But I'm not quite sure, if this really works...

I could ask my client to allow you to pick the original file from his server. So I could send you my SDL file in parallel.
Would you agree in doing this?

    Regards
    Nicole
  • Hi Nicole,

Yes, I'd be happy to take a look at this. Sounds pretty interesting!

    Thanks

  • Hi Paul,

oh yes, I think it is! ;-)
I contacted my client, I think you should get an e-mail from him saying how you can access his server.
