Error "No reference to the project is known"

After having updated Studio 2015 (SR2) I get the above message.

I get the message: "No reference to the project is known", when I try to open a project in Studio. If I continue, Multiterm is not working - it says that the system cannot connect to my Multiterm file.
When closing the Studio and starting it again, Studio and MT seem to be working again.

I have tried to repair Studio 2015 without any luck. This appears on both my computers which are running with two different virus programmes. Windows Defender on my stationary comp. and on my laptop I have AVG.

The operating system on both computers is Windows 10 which is updated.

Hope I can get help here :-)

  • Hi Mette,

It sounds as though you have a corrupted entry in your projects file. Can you rename your projects.xml file to projects.xml_old or something similar. Then restart Studio. You can find this file here:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2015\Projects\projects.xml

You will lose the list of projects in Studio, but not the projects themselves. Now add them back in again one at a time by using the Open Project command (Ctrl+O) in Studio and browse to the location of your projects to select the sdlproj file for each one.

    This may resolve the problem.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul, I have the same problem as Mette, and it has occurred with both Excel and Word files recently, both of them when translating into Bulgarian, both of them new files created by me by copying and pasting a single column from a multilingual client file. Studio adds the source files just fine, prepares them for translation and opens them, and then I get the following message: "Unable to find the specified file." Every other time, I also get the ""No reference to the project is known" message.

I have verified that both the source native and sdlxliff files are there and that the target sdlxliff files is there. However, I cannot create a target file!

I tried your solution above and it did not work for me. I tried repairing Studio, with no success. I tried creating a new project and adding the file, and it did the same thing. The Excel was created by me, by copying and pasting a single column from a multilingual client file. I tried both Excel 2016 (xlsx) and Excel 2003 (xls) versions, with identical results.

I am using Windows 10 Pro (OS build 10586.218), SDL Trados Studio 2015 Freelance, SR2 - 12.2.5087.4. No separately installed antivirus.

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Evelyna
  • Another weird thing - even though my TM is open in the TM search, the Concordance Search window tells me there is no TM open - although my "concordance" is checked against the TM in my project settings.
