Error message: "Could not find the specified file" when I tried to open File> Options

I have only started to use SDL Trados Studo recently and I am learning a lot every day. But today I got the Error message: "Could not find the specified file" when I tried to open File> Options and I can't get passed to change some settings for my project. Has anyone experienced the same problem? What did you do to fix it? (The error message is a direct translation from Swedish, and might be phrased differently in English.)

  • Hi Malin,

There might not be anything to fix. It just means that the sdlxliff doesn't contain an embedded version of the source, or if the source was TTX for example and you don't have access to the original source that was used to prepare the TTX. You should still be able to work on the file and save the sdllxiff, or return it to your client. You just can't save the target for example unless you also have the source.

If this isn't the problem then another possibility is that the temp files being used when you work on the file might have been deleted. This can happen with some anti-virus programs, or clean up utilities. This problem is usually resolved by adding Studio to the list of approved programs in these utilities.

    Regards

    Paul

  • I can see now that my first question is misleading. I do not have any problems with opening actual files for translation. My problem is that I can't open the "Options" dialog box which appears under the "File" in the Top menu. My aim today is to change the settings for the auto-propagating function.
