Error message: "Could not find the specified file" when I tried to open File Options

Question

I have only started to use SDL Trados Studo recently and I am learning a lot every day. But today I got the Error message: "Could not find the specified file" when I tried to open File> Options and I can't get passed to change some settings for my project. Has anyone experienced the same problem? What did you do to fix it? (The error message is a direct translation from Swedish, and might be phrased differently in English.)

ok - can you try resetting Studio and then try again? You may have to do a Studio reset and it might help. You didn't mention the version you are using so based on Studio 2015 rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0

A very good question! I can tell you it causes the problem because it contains settings that control many custom settings in Studio and these get corrupted. So deleting it allows for a fresh start, But I can't tell you why it gets corrupted. Possibly down to clean up utilities, anti-virus programs... I'm not really sure. But I do wish we held these settings in a more robust location.
