Is 128GB SSD good enough to improve Studio 2015's performance in terms of speed?

Dear Studio 2015 users,

For those of you who have SSD in your computer, I would like to know if getting a higher-end computer that comes with a 128 GB SSD will make a difference in the time it takes to start up a computer and to open large files from a Studio project.  (Some of my clients like to send large, merged sdlxliff files which take a long time to open in Studio.)

I found a computer that seems to be good, but I am not sure about the 128 GB SSD part.  Can someone shed some light on this?

    Using a SSD instead of a magnetic hard disk will definitely improve the performance of your PC. Windows will boot faster and programs will launch faster. I would say that with the decrease in price of SSDs, it has now become state of the art to buy computers equipped with SSDs.

    What you need to carefully analyze however is the volume of data you are going to deal with. Keep in mind that your system partition, which contains the OS and all your applications, will take up something between 40 - 70 GB. This means that it will not leave you much free space for data files.

    Looking at the configuration you quote, I see that you also have a large magnetic hard disk, so you can store some of your data files there.

    The combination of a SSD for the OS and applications and a magnetic hard disk for file storage is a good one. I would nevertheless recommend that you take a model with a SSD of 256 GB instead of 128 GB, simply because SSDs with higher capacity are faster (I recommend to avoid 128 GB SSDs). This should not make a huge difference in price. In addition, it will give you enough room to be able to store the large files you mentioned also on the SSD instead of having to put them on the hard disk.
