Reopenned translated XLF show no target translations in Studio 2011

Dear Colleagues,

I have an issue with XLF processing by Studio 2011, hope some knowledgeable people here are able to help me.

I received the file from the client (prepared with DejaVu), translated it as SDLXLIFF, and Saved target as XLF. Client converted it back with their CAT-tool into DOCX (original file format) and it turned out that target text was not there. Trying to investigate I reopenned the translated XLF in Trados Studio 2011 and all target segments were empty. However, when openning this XLF with Notepad++ I can see all target text present in the file. I tried 3 major CAT-tools, and they all failed to show me my translations.
I've seen the similar topic here, but the proposed solution is for Studio 2014 (and later, I suppose). It does not work for me as Studio 2011 does not have the option of unticking the box [Do not store segmentation information in the translated file] in XLIFF File Type Settings menu. Please help!

  • Hello Ildar,

I don't really understand this unless you are somehow looking at the sdlxliff in the source language folder of a Studio project. Don't you still have the original SDLXLIFF you translated? Can you open the source XLF again (with the option to not store segmentation info checked - although this should not effect the target text no being present) and then pretranslate it from your TM?

I can take a look at this if you send me the source XLF and your fully translated SDLXLIFF? You can email it to pfilkin@sdl.com

    Regards

    Paul

  • Dear Paul,

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.
As I am bound by NDA I am not permitted to send you the files. However I can copy below one translation unit from the XLF file that does not show any target when openned in Studio.
    Here it is:

    <trans-unit id="0000362" reformat="no"><source xml:lang="en-US">Existing option</source><seg-source xml:lang="en-US"><mrk mtype="seg" mid="0000362">Existing option</mrk></seg-source><target state="needs-review-adaptation" xml:lang="ru-RU"><mrk mtype="seg" mid="0000362" />Имеющийся вариант</target></trans-unit>

As you can see the target text is present. What puzzles me here is that <mrk...> is not closed by </mrk> as in source but before target starts (... />Имеющийся...). Could this be the reason? And if yes, what could be the solution available within Studio 2011, since there is nothing to check as for the option to not store segmentation info.

    Looking forward to your reply.
