Word count statistics not updating properly as I translate in Studio 2015

The word count statistics at the bottom right of the editor screen are not updating properly as I translate. They start off OK, but stop at some point during the translation process and stay the same throughout. Even though all segments are confirmed, it still shows a certain figure to be inserted. Of course, this means that in the project it looks as though the job isn't finished, even though it is. I've tried running the word count batch task but to no avail. If I close the file and then try and open it again from my file folder, the word count resets, but that's a pain when I'm working within a project. Any idea why it does this or how I can fix it?

I'm also having a problem where occasionally I open a job that's already translated from the project list and it shows briefly on the editor screen, but then disappears. Again I can only open it from the xliff file in my files folder. What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks.

Claire

  • Are you running SR1? I have encountered this problem on a couple of large Projects - am also interested in the solution.

  • I think so - I'm running whatever the latest update is! This particular project isn't particularly huge - only 10,000 words across 4 files, but it's even happening on very small files. Whilst the work-round of opening the file from the file folder does work, you lose all your termbases, autosuggest dictionaries etc in the process, which can be a pain to reset if there are lots, as is often the case.
  • Hi Claire,
Have you tried repairing Studio via Windows Control Panel? If that doesn't work, a 'silent reinstall'?

What happens if you right-click > Remove the project from the projects list, close Studio then open and 'Open project'? Does that re-establish the project properly? Or if you remove ALL of the projects then restart Studio?
If that doesn't work, what about if you create a new project based on the project that isn't working (New project > 'Create a project based on a previous project' or 'Browse...') and just add the files to that new project?

There could be a common cause for these 2 issues as they appear to both represent a Studio display fault...

    All the best,
    Ali

  • Hi Alison,

Sorry to take so long to reply, but I was up in London at the SDL Training Seminar yesterday andhave only just got round to your e-mail. Lovely to hear from you - that must be quite some time ago! Are you freelancing now?

I asked the experts in the seminar too, but no-one seemed to know why it should be doing this, so I think they are going to open a support case on my behalf. I hope so, as it's driving me crazy! A related problem is that sometimes, when I come to open a file in a project, especially one I've been working on for a few days, the file appears to open, shows for a few seconds, then I just have a blank editor screen. I can still see the translation results window and the termbases, but nothing below! Again, I can open the file if I go the to the file folder and open the xliff from there, but then I've list my termbase and Autosuggest settings. It really is extremely frustrating! I'm loath to repair mid-project (not even sure what a silent reinstall is!) as I'm worried I'll lose everything! Then again, I'm wasting so much time every time I open a file, perhaps I should....

    Many thanks,
    Claire
  • Hello, I am finding the same problem here. Any solution? I don't know either what is a slinet reinstall nor how to repair from control panel? Control panel lets us uninstall application, no repairing, as far as I know. Thank you for any tip or workaround. Pierre Souchar
  • Hi, same problem here. Is there any solution, yet?
  • Hei, with respect to this: "Even though all segments are confirmed, it still shows a certain figure to be inserted. Of course, this means that in the project it looks as though the job isn't finished, even though it is."
I had the same problem once and I found out that there is a difference between "All segments" and "All content" if you go to"Review" tab. In the specific file, where I had translated all segments, but it still only showed 92%, after I changed under "Review" from "All segments" to "all contents", a lot of segments with formatting content became visible, that were however not displayed in the editor for translation. So it seems that in this specific file the statistics was calculated based on "All content" and not based on "Segments to be translated". After sending the file and it was opened by the agency, it showed 100% for them.
  • Hi Joseann,

I don't think it's a filter display issue (although that would be very interesting to investigate) because it wasn't a problem for your client. This happens quite often and we can very rarely reproduce it for the same reason. It seems to be a refresh issue so if you run a batch task to wordcount or analyse it often clears itself up.

    Regards
