Does Studio auto change a subsequent 100% match segment to reviewed in review mode?

Dear Studio 2015 users,

The file I am editing in Studio has quite a few repetitive segments.  Say, for example, segments 1, 3 and 5 are repetitions which have been confirmed (with a checkmark) by the translator.  When I open the file for review, I confirm segment 1, which now has a magnifying icon.

Is there a setting in Studio that will auto-change the status of segments 3 and 5 to reviewed/approved?  After I confirmed segment 1, nothing happened to segments 3 and 5.  I am hoping to see these two repetitive segments set as reviewed/approved without additional manual work.  Is it possible with Studio 2015?

Thank you!

Chunyi

  • I have the same settings, but it doesn't seem to work when a file is open for review.
Is it because the subsequent segments are in confirmed status? I was thinking about changing confirmed status to draft for all segments (before starting the editing task), but I am afraid this would mess up the translator's file by having potential TM leak into the translated segments.
  • Hi Chunyi,

The issue you're seeing is related to Track Changes. When Track Changes is on, (Review tab-Track Changes), any segments that are confirmed without changes won't be autopropagated. To fix this, you need to disable Track Changes, then autopropagation will work correctly in unchanged, confirmed segments.

Because of this issue (bug?), I usually do the following when reviewing a document:

    1. Filter for repetitions. Start reviewing with Track Changes off. If a change is needed in a segment, then enable track changes, make the change and confirm the segment, then disable Track Changes again and keep going.
    2. When all the repetitions have been reviewed, clear the filter and enable Track Changes. Since there are no more repetitions that may need propagation, it doesn't matter if Track Changes is left on for the rest of the review.

    Hope that helps!
  • But you do not need to confirm unchanged segments - there is no reason to do that. They will be put on "Translation approved" status when the file is closed.
Sorry, I didn't even think you do confirm unchanged segments - these are indeed not autopropagated, because there is no need for that.
My way of doing that is apply changes and confirm, when necessary. When no changes are necessary, the segment is simply skipped.
When done, I save a copy of the file with tracked changes for certification purposes (File -> Advanced Save) and then accept all changes, filter for segments with "translation rejected" status, confirm those in one go and close the file. All remaining segments are then in "Translation approved" status.

  • That's interesting Jerzy. I like confirming unchanged segments as it helps me keep track of my progress.
  • Yes, of course. But OTOH it takes time, so I we stopped that. If you have a powerful PC this may not make a big deal, but with a weaker PC it is a performance issue, though.

  • I'm with Nora on this and also Chunyi. I played with this setting this afternoon and had a chat with Daniel about it and we agreed that it made sense to AP the status even if you don't make any changes. At least it should work in the same way as if you changed it. I don't think you can use the ability to set them as reviewed when you close the file all the time because if you deliberately wish to leave some unreviewed to come back to later then you won't be able to... that option is all or nothing.

So we have logged an enhancement request. Don't know when it'll be done, but it's logged.

  • We leave segments with status "translation rejected", they will NOT be automatically changed to approved - which is exactly the behavior we need. Also segments in "not translated" status won't be changed too - play with that option. This is however something which should automatically be put on "approved" - as these segments are untranslated in case one has copied the source to target without editing. This happens to us often for number segments.
If you wish to return to segments, lock them. They won't be changed too, unless you confirm you wish them to be changed.
So I do not think the current option is that bad - I like the possibility to have the segments all upgraded. However, I would have nothing against auto-propagating the updated status to unchanged segments too. In fact this is how it worked, when track changes were first implemented.
The options for the process have been changed many times in the meantime. For some time closing the file caused ALL segments to be put to approved status, even those, which have been rejected - and that was really pain somewhere. This is most certainly why I am not unhappy with the current situation. In our 4-eyes-scenario the culprit is to keep a copy of the file with NOT approved changes - for the purpose of the audit. And this works perfectly with the option "Save copy as". So by all means, if you change something in this process, do NOT change this!
    Best regards, Jerzy

  • Hi Nora,

Thank you for sharing your tips with me. I think they are the most effective way to get around this no AP for no change segment behavior Studio acts. I will just have to remind myself to turn track changes on whenever I need to modify a segment:)
Oh and the tip on filtering repetitions is very helpful, too--I wasn't aware of this option until you mentioned it.

  • Great, thank you for logging an enhancement request. I look forward to seeing it implemented soon!
