TMs and project folders disappeared - did anyone ever encounter something similar?

Dear all,

I have been working with Trados Studio 2014 for several years now and a few days ago half of my major Translation Memories together with the related project folders "disappeared". Not only from Trados TM List, but also from the folder that I created (on my computer/external hard drive) when working with a certain translation agency.

I inspected every nook and cranny of my computer, but the TMs and the files are gone... :-(

As I am clueless and shocked about this event, I wonder if anyone of you has an idea of where they might have gone - or may it be some kind of bug?

  • Dear Susanne,
I noticed exactly the same behavior on a colleague's computer just the other day. She had saved her TMs in the default path under C:\users... and the entire path had gone. I think it must have something to do with the installation of the most recent update (to build 5141).

Fortunately, she had backups of the files, but there must be a major flaw somewhere.

This proves again that it is a wise decision not to use the default path for projects/TMs...

    Kind regards
    Annette
  • Hi both,

I think it is highly unlikely that the Studio update had anything to with this. More likely it's got something to do with Windows. For example, if you installed Studio using a local user account and then after a while changed the login details, maybe with a new windows 10 store account then it's possible you would no longer see the files in your Documents folder. But I'd expect this to affect more than just Studio files.

To solve this I think we'd need to know more about what you have done recently and what operating system you are using.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,
thanks a lot for your input. My first reaction was also, that there might be no connection to Studio system and update, because only one folder with one language pair (EN>DE) was affected (the content disappeard) with the TMs and project folders in it.
No other folder/language pair was affected. But the folder that is gone was the one that I have worked with most recently and most frequently and also on the day that the event occured (July 20th and 21st).
I have Windows 10 installed, but did not change any user accounts or login details at all!
Of course I contacted SDL-support the other day (I do not pay for support), but they did not reply to my concerns directly, instead sent me a link for this forum...
Thanks anyways and have a good day,
    regards
    Susanne
  • Hi both,

Thanks Paul for getting back to us. I just phoned my colleague once again. She also works under Windows 10, but is positive that it happened after she installed the latest CU (she works with the current version). She was able to continue her work on that day, but when she started Studio the next time, she got the message that the TM did not exist (I saw it myself, and the path that was indicated no longer existed).
She also said that there were no Windows-Updates at that time and that she only works with a single account, so it cannot have anything to do with different user profiles either.

    Quite spooky, really!

    Kind regards
