TM not updating and editor display issue

I am having problems with the displayed info, project settings and updating of TMs in Trados Studio 2015 (not clear if problems are related).

An example of the issue:

I am working in a particular project as Open for Review (the project contains 1 file, it is not opened as Single file translation but a project was made for it). No other files or projects are open in the Editor view but the one I am reviewing. However, the settings and TM of a different project are displayed. Please see explanation below:

Moreover, my TMs do not seem to update themselves. I update them manually via batch tasks and have noticed several times that the translations were not in the TM. My colleagues do not have this problem. I admit that my issues are a bit vague and I'd be happy to try solutions or provide more information.

Let me explain how Studio works: the project that appears in bold in the Projects list is your current project and this is why you see its name on top. This is not a bug, but a feature. This does not prevent you from having a file from another project open in the editor, which is your case. You probably double-clicked on the project name "Q16-00258 ..." after you had opened your file from the other project and this made this project the active one. So, there is nothing wrong with this.

About the TM being updated: why do you think it does not get updated? The easiest way to check is to modify the content of a segment, confirm it, then move your cursor back into the segment and check if the TU shown in the "Translation Results" window shows the change you made. if it does, then your TM gets updated.

  • Hi Walter,

Thank you very much for your explanation.

This was actually a question from my colleague. Personally, when I switch files in the editor, I am able to access the relevant project settings using the home ribbon.

However, she is only able to access the project settings of that particular project by going back to the projects overview, selecting the correct project and then reopening it in the editor. That doesn't seem very efficient.

Concerning her TM problems. When confirming segments the translation does come up in the translation results. When updating the TM and using it for another project, even after applying pre-translate, the translations are gone. She also noticed that some of the tmx-exports she made were empty or incomplete.

    Any suggestions?

Does she use a "Project TM" in her project? If yes, did she run the batch task "Update main TM" or "finalize" before doing the exports or using the (main) TM for another project?

  • Hello Walter,

    Thank you for your reply.

She often uses a project TM and a main TM and always updates the TMs via batch tasks by choosing "update main TM" and "update project TM".

She does usually copy her Studio projects from one folder to another. We often create a project in our quotation folder for counting words and determining the price. After order confirmation she copies the project to our order folders. Could that have anything to do with it?

Personally, I always recreate my Studio projects because I find that copying them does not work very well with the path(s) the project refers to.

    Kind regards,
    Anthoinette
