Suggestion: Setting to specify which items are displayed in the QuickPlace list.

Right now acronyms, numbers and tags are all displayed in the QuickPlace list. It would be nice to be able to configure this so that for example only tags are displayed. Numbers and acronyms are ususally quicker to type with the keyboard than inserting (unless they are extremely long). Also, numbers and acronyms are always displayed on top in the QuickPlace list (and always in the same order, unlike the tags), which means sometimes you have to press down arrow many, many times to get to the tag you want to insert.

I am thinking three checkboxes (for acronyms, numbers, tags) under a category named QuickPlace List somewhere in File > Options > Editor. Would save lots of time daily.

Bonus suggestion: Make the tags behave like in TagEditor 2007 in overwrite mode, i.e. that the tag is pushed forward when encountering a tag while writing, instead of the text just continuing on the other side of the tag.

  • Hi Daniel,

I like your idea. For now, there are two ways to achieve what you want:

    1. Instead of using Ctrl+Comma to apply the tags, use Ctrl+Alt+(Right) Arrow. This will immediately apply the first tag/tag pair (the list won't be displayed).

    2.  In the TM Fields and Settings, uncheck the boxes for Numbers and Acronyms. Those two types of placeables will no longer be shown in the QuickInsert list, but it also means they won't be recognized as placeables.

  • Hi Nora,

    1. The problem with Ctrl + Alt + right (or left) is that it starts from the first tag in the segment whenever you press it, meaning you would have to press Ctrl + Alt + right, right, right, right, right etc. to insert subsequent tags (with the obvious risk of errors). So this would be essentially the same as browsing through the quicklist. The advantage with the quicklist is that the next tag is moved to the top of the list so you just have to press Ctrl + <comma> once (or, for me, Ctrl + Alt + Down, like TagEditor) to insert the next tag, if you could just get rid of the acronyms and numbers.

    2. Thanks for the tip! I haven't thought about this one. I'll try, and see what other implications it has. I would still like at least numbers to be auto-substituted.

In general, tag management was better in TagEditor methinks...
