How to import numbers in the excel file when creating a project using Studio

Hi Studio experts,

I have an excel file. Some cells only have numbers. When I create a project using Studio, those numbers are not imported. It seems this is a default setting. But I do need the numbers imported. For example, the zip code cells are not imported. For localization purpose, I need to change those numbers.

Thanks,

Ivan

  • Hi Raul,

The file is used for a demo tutorial. The client needs local names, telephone numbers, zip codes, etc. Therefore, I need to change those numbers accordingly.

I acutlly had another issue with these numbers. See my reply to Ladislav.

    Thanks,
    Ivan
  • Hi Ivan,

I can help you with Bilingual Excel. By default, the file type does not extract any numbers; to do it, go to settings and from the "Exclude" group uncheck "Cells containing formatted numbers". If this is unchecked, every number will be extracted. However, there is a caveat: considering the date that you shown to Ladislav, the filter will display it as a seemingly random number. That is because date, time and other elements are stored in the Excel file as really big numbers. For example, to store the date it counts how many days have passed since 1 January 1900, which is the value you will see extracted in Trados Studio. We don't extract this as a date because if the user wants to modify it, we can't be sure of the date format the user has introduced. Does he live in US and uses MM-DD-YYYY, or does he use another format? This is one of the reasons why we don't extract numbers: it can get quite messy and the values are not necessarily useful for the user.
