Full stop segmentation not working - why?

Good morning, 

I have noticed that sometimes full stop segmentation does not work: I have e.g. a segment with 3 different sentences, separated by full stop.

I have checked the "segmentation rules", and the default ones include full stop. Why may it be that it is not working as it should? This leads to having very long segments, which are more difficult and time consuming to translate...

    Hello Helga,

    Maybe you have abbreviations in your sentences, or no spaces after the words? Pretty hard to answer this one without an example of the sentences that are not segmenting as you think they should.

    Also, there are disclosed the process using a catalyst formed by supporting about 0.001 to 25% by weight of ruthenium and about 0.1 to 6% by weight of cobalt and/or nickel together with about 0 to 10%v by weight of copper and about 0 to 5%v by weight of an accelerator composed of various metals on a porous oxide such as alumina, silica and an aluminosilicate (e.g., refer to JP 10-174874A), and the process using a catalyst formed by supporting about 0.001 to 25% by weight of ruthenium and about 6 to 50% by weight of cobalt and/or nickel together with about 0 to 10% by weight of copper and about 0 to 5% by weight of an accelerator composed of various metals on a porous oxide such as alumina, silica and an aluminosilicate. In these techniques, the catalysts are produced by an impregnating method, and the catalyst produced is dried, baked at 400ºC for 4 h, and then subjected to hydrogen reducing treatment at 300ºC for 20 h. Further, the catalysts fail to exhibit sufficient reactivity and selectivity.

    There seem to be spaces after the full stops. Why is it not segmented at least in 3 segments? This has happened a few times. Alternatively, sometimes a short sentence is split into 3 segments, don't get that either...

    Hi Helga,

    I get two segments. The third is not segmenting after 20 h. because "h." is an abbreviation in your abbreviations list and this prevents segmentation. Delete h. from your abbreviation list and you should have three segments which is correct.
