Trailing spaces bug still present in Studio 2017

Hi Paul,

Are there any plans to fix the bug concerning trailing spaces in segments not being respected? I was a bit disappointed to see that nothing has changed in Studio 2017 in this respect. It's really crucial for WS projects that trailing spaces are being kept. Otherwise, auto-propagation is entirely useless.

In general, I keep wondering why a TM tool does not save the translations the way I confirm them. Isn't this the key purpose of a TM tool?

Addressing this bug in the near future would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot and best regards,
Stefan

  • Hi Stefan,

Indeed, by design, we are removing spaces in translations when we save them in the TM. This is to ensure maximum reuse and a clean TM, but is also important for translations into or from Asian languages, for example, where we need to ensure we add or remove spaces as part of segmenting a text or saving as target (and for that it's important not to have spaces in TUs). So there have always been many good reasons for this behaviour. Typically, when you put trailing (or leading) spaces into your translation, this indicates an issue upstream - i.e. the document has not been processed in a way that ensures best translation. I know this is tricky and an entire topic of its own, but just to say that we do not support leading/trailing spaces and it's best to try to address this upstream.

    Thanks, Daniel
