Trados Studio 2017 does not recognize variables

Hey. Having installed the new Studio 2017, the program doesn't recognize my variables anymore. Before that I had upgraded my TM, re-imported the variables list and enabled variables recognition in both the TM itself as well as in the project Auto-Substitution settings - no luck. Instead, the confusing fragment matches window keeps popping up, making the translation process much slower, not faster. Has anyone here had a similar problem with variables and perhaps knows a solution?

    Hi Margus,

    Thanks for sending your TM.  I can definitely see the problem with your TM.  But I can’t reproduce it.  This is what I tried using a new TM and then adding variables in your TM and testing on a new file.

    First I added a TM with these variables only:

    Translated the first segment and all is well:

    I build the translation model and repeat the translation test… it’s still all good.  Now I align the fragments:

    Note that my AP settings changed and there was no confirmation… however it was also lightning fast!!  So I cannot find a problem here.

    I’m going to need more information about how you went about this TM preparation.  For example: 

    1. How did you create the TM?
    2. How did you get your variables in there… you mentioned that you copy pasted… did you use the Variable App for that?
    3. At what point did you add your variables… before preparing for upLIFT or afterwards?

    So really as much information as possible since there has to be something about the way in which you have prepared this TM which I need to know so I can successfully reproduce the problem and then we can fix it.

    Hi Margus,

    Thank you for sending me your original TM. I think I know what the problem is now because your upLIFT TM is actually smaller than your original, and it's missing some of the language resources. It makes me wonder if you cancelled the upLIFT process before allowing it to complete perhaps?

    Anyway, I upgraded your original TM and everything is working as expected. I have sent you an email with a link to your TM.

    Hi Paul,
    I've also noticed variable import is working on TMs created by Studio 2017, recognition is just failing in upgraded TMs. Furthermore, I se cases where the preceeding word is tokenized as well, so I'm going to inform support about this behaviour.
