Package from client works in Studio 2015 but not 2017 - "The document cannot be processed since it contains unexpected contents"

I received a package from a client, which contains what appears to be a relatively  normal Word file for translation.  When I try to open it in Studio 2017, I get the following error and can't work with the file.  Opening the package in 2015 seems to work fine.  Can anyone help me understand why/fix this?

    Hello Stephen,

    Can you unzip the package and open the SDLXLIFF files directly without getting this error?

    Hi Paul,

    I tried using "Translate Single Document" and selected the SDLXLIFF file from the package. I still got the error.

    In the meantime I translated the project using Studio 2015, which I luckily haven't uninstalled. I hope this isn't something I keep running into with 2017, though.

    Hello,

    I am new to Trados Studio 2017, I receive the same error message while opening a word document: "The document can not be processed because it contains unexpected data."

    I just have no Version 2015 to try.

    Its Win10, Studio 2017.

     

    Any ideas?
