Subtitling: Line is missing in Subtitling Data

Dear Team,

I've installed the Subtitling Plugin, loaded my .srt- and .mp4-file, and opened the Subtitling Preview and Subtitling Data.

When starting the translation, I noticed that in the Subtitling Data line 2 is missing, see:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Subtitling Data panel showing missing line 2 between lines 1 and 3.

Even though it is displayed correctly in the editor, see:

Close-up of Trados Studio's Subtitling Data panel highlighting the line numbers where line 2 is absent.

The content of line 2 was somehow shifted to line 1, so, I'd now have to split line 1 to create line 2.

Is this possible?

Many thanks in advance for your support and best wishes,

Janina

  • Hi

ok - now I can reproduce your problem.  But it is correct:

Trados Studio interface showing segmented subtitles with a full stop causing segment #1 and #2 to be split, despite being subtitle ID 1.

If you arrange the preview columns like the above and include the "Text" it's a bit easier to understand what's happening.  Segment #1 and #2 in Studio are actually subtitle ID 1 but Studio will segment them because of the full stop.  So this:

Close-up of subtitle preview with text 'Welcome to this short introduction video for FUN' split into two segments due to full stop.

    becomes this:

Trados Studio preview pane showing subtitle text correctly segmented but with missing subtitle ID in the ID column.

But i the preview it's this:

Blurred image of Trados Studio interface, details not discernible.

I think the reason you think the second one is missing is because the numbers you are looking at reflect the Studio segment numbering and not the subtitle ID.  So in this case the subtitle starts on segment #1.  The # column is showing you which segment each subtitle starts on.

The same thing occurs on segment #8 where the subtitle ID#6 starts on segment #7.

There is one problem I can see, in that when you add the ID column to the preview it should display the ID of the subtitle, but it doesn't.  That might have made it a bit easier to follow.  So it's currently blank like this:

Trados Studio interface with an arrow pointing to subtitle ID#6 starting on segment #7 instead of segment #8 due to segmentation error.

    It should be like this:

Corrected Trados Studio interface showing subtitle ID column now displaying the ID of the subtitle, resolving the previous issue.

Hopefully this explains the problem for you and I'll log the issue of the missing ID numbers for resolution.
