I have been using Trados for 11 years (Studio 2009) and followed my progress toward completion and getting paid by Words and all the sudden, it is changed to segments and even worse is still incorrect as I discovered in a recent post.
Please, just listen to the many people arguing and get back to a "Files" view by Words or make it selectable by the user as it is selectable in the Confirmation Statistics windows.
It was changed because it used to take no account of empty segments or tag only segments. It was purely based on wordcount. This was actually a bug, but for these users it was a "good bug" as they used it for something that wasn't intended in the first place. Today it's based on segments instead so you have some idea if anything is missed at a glance.
In my opinion, as I showed above and as you have also shown, you have exactly what these users are asking for already there so I would not change it back. But it's a product management decision, not mine.
Paul has constructed an example where 3 segments with text are already translated and one segment without text is not confirmed. This calculation shows 75% progress. To copy the empty segment to the target and confirm should therefore account for 25% of the work. This is definitely wrong.
