How to report MT linguistic issues to RWS Support

Language Weaver Machine Translation delivers fluent understandable translations. However, we recognize there will be instances where the output is less than perfect. If a linguistic issue occurs regularly for your use case and impacts your business, let us know by raising a support ticket at https://gateway.sdl.com.

The ticket you raise will be triaged by our support engineers who will start their investigation by reproducing the behavior you report. To help us make an efficient assessment of your support case please include the information detailed below.

For Language Weaver:

  • The language combination, e.g. English to French
  • The MT model, Generic or Custom
  • The translation mode, user interface or via the API
  • Was an MT Dictionary used?
  • Was a specific file format used?

For Language Weaver Edge:

  • The Language Weaver Edge main software version
  • The language combination, e.g. English to French
  • The MT model, Generic or Custom
  • The version number of the language. Find this on the Translate page in your browser UI or via API at endpoint /api/v2/language-pairs.
  • The translation mode, user interface or via the API
  • Was an MT Dictionary used?
  • Was a specific file format used?

In addition please supply:

  • A sample of source content in an editable format that shows the issue. This can be either:
    • A copy of the original document you uploaded for translation
    • Or the specific text you translated on the Translate page
      • Please make sure that the examples you share with us are in editable format and please avoid screen shots
  • The MT Output corresponding to the source content translated
  • Please also describe what would be an appropriate output.

An example of how to report a linguistic issue by following our guidelines can be found below.

Support case example

Description of the problem:

  • When translating German numbers into English, the thousands delimiters are not converted into the appropriate English format, instead they are copied in the target language unchanged.

Examples:

  • Source:
    • Das Übersetzungszentrum wurde 1994 errichtet; heute werden pro Jahr rund 750.000 Seiten für mehr als 60 Kunden in ganz Europa übersetzt.
  • Machine Translated output
    • The Translation Center was established in 1994 and today, around 750.000 pages per year are translated for more than 60 customers across Europe.
  • Correct translation
    • The Translation Center was established in 1994 and today, around 750,000 pages per year are translated for more than 60 customers across Europe.

System information:

  • Language Weaver Edge version: 8.5.4
  • Language pair used: German to English generic engine version 8.4.1
  • No dictionaries were used to perform this translation.
  • The issue occurs when text is translated via the Language Weaver Edge Web UI
