MyMemory MT not working with Studio 2017

I downloaded the MyMemory app last week, and used it to great effect on a project. Now, I've got another file I'd like to use it for, but the MT function is no longer available. It is set up the same as before in project settings, but offers me no MT functionality. Can anyone help?

    Are you using the free version? or the paid Pro version.
    I understand that the free version has a daily limit of around 1000 words.

    If you have not reached this limit or are using the Professional version-
    then maybe simply reinstall the app by right clicking the installer and running as administrator (and maybe recreating the project).

    Strangely enough, it has started working again. But, thanks for the info about the word limit. I am indeed using the free version for now.

    Steven is right with this 1000 words limit. BUT: the issue is much larger in my experience. If in a project (desktop or Groupshare) you have several TM-Resources, there will be the following behavior since the last Studio Update (I have the pro version 2017 with all updates)

    If I select:

    my local memory+

    a serverbased TM+

    SDL Language Cloud+

    MyMemory

    I do not get any answer from Mymemory when Language Cloud is also selected. If I remove Language Cloud from the project, I get good answers from Mymemory (pro suscription),and they are better than those I get from Language Cloud. But if I remain with my three selections now (local memory, serverbased TM, MyMemory), I experience the following behavior:  I get the message an unknown error occured or in Mymemory, or in the serverbased TM. If I close the programm and restart the whole thing, it restarts working for a while until showing the same behavior again. If I remove all and keep only the serverbased TM, all things work correctly and I can get the segments where I had this unknown error into the serverbased TM without any problem. When this unknown error occurs Studio stops simply to register the segments in question into the TMs (local or serverbased)

    Therefore, in my opinion, there is still a big bug in this new version of Studio, please do the necessary to get it fixed quickly.

    Another thing which in my opinion is not normal: If I select MT for no match in the options for pretranslating a document, this applies only to Language Cloud where I get not very useful answers for the language I translate. This MT-option does not take in account MyMemory or DeepL, where I get a lot of good answers, much better than those of Language Cloud (remark I translate from French, Italien, Spanish and English to German)

    You should accept the two systems as MT-Provider for pretranslating documents.

    I think you should have really created a new thread for this one as it's going to get lost in here. I'm going to test when I get the chance, but I'm curious about using two or more MT providers for pretranslation. Given both will always return a result of some kind what are you expecting here?

    Just to let you know that I experience the same issues as you, although in a less serious way, maybe because in my usual bunch of translation helps I do no include a server-based TM.
    If you add this problem to some other ones I described earlier this year (among them the statistics tools behaviour), I think you can reasonably state that Studio 2017 SR1 has got a trail of bugs, often known to the development team who have a hard time fixing them.

    Thanks for your answer. I have a support maintenance contract for Studio - but all this contains also the behavior of the new Groupshare version - and one should be able to get answers about the interactions of the multiple resources in a project. When I open a ticket for those, I get the answer: turn to the people who created the app, or it is a Groupshare issue. And as it's not me your Groupshare customer (I am only using the resources as a administrator and power user), I don't get answers. It's as simple as that and really regrettable.

    I meant what do you expect to see returned from the MT provider, not what you expect in terms of answers to your questions. Since every MT provider will return a result and a pretranslation can only populate once, what do you expect to see from using three different MT providers?

    But to consider your post on support, this is a very tricky area. The problem could reside in the apps, in GS or in Studio. Studio and GS we clearly need to sort out, but debugging the code from an application created by another is not going to happen. So we need to the following:

    1. verify everything works with Studio/GS/LC
    2. if it's all ok then we need to add into this working scenario the apps one at a time and see when it breaks
    3. then we can contact the app developers and see what can be done between us to find the problem

    The reality is that from point 3. onwards the problem is no longer one of ours directly. So you should really take a working solution and introduce the problem to the developer of the app who probably never even considered a setup like this as the apps would have been developed in Studio alone.

    However, I'll see whether I can reproduce the problem using the same things you have described and if I can't I'll come back to you.

    What I expect is the following: when I say populate from MT and I select SDL Language Cloud I get something (mostly inusable) when I select or Mymemory or DeepL I get NOTHING AT ALL with this function, but during the translation process I get a lot of good solutions, I can use - what in my opinion means that they are not integrated for this batch task and for me it's really regrettable that the two ones do not seem to have been implemented for the pretranslation process.

    ok - so do they pretranslate for you when nothing else is selected? This is starting to sound like a problem with the apps rather than Studio/GS. I have used DeepL to pretranslate files so I know that works (without anything else connected), I haven't used MyMemory for this but have no reason to doubt it will work.

    I have finished a series of tests, with a very poor internet connection in a hotel in Paris!  This is what I did:

    1. Created a GroupShare Project with a couple of files using only a Server TM - All good.
    2. Added SDL Language Cloud and set my settings to use MT is nothing was found in the TM
    3. Added some files and prepared them - all good.  At least everything was translated with MT and TM, can't comment on the quality.
    4. Disabled SDL Language Cloud
    5. Added DeepL MT provider, added more files and prepared them as before - all good
    6. Disabled DeepL
    7. Added MyMemory MT provider, added more files and prepared them as before - all good
    8. Enabled everything, added more files and prepared them as before - all good

    I get no errors.  The files are all translated to some status (CM, 100%, fuzzies 70%+, AT)  The only conclusion I can draw from this is that first of all all the plugins work and are capable of being used for pretranslation even in the scenario you described.

    So, the next question is how to replicate your problem.  Perhaps you can replicate this on a dummy project somewhere you can allow me access and then I'll be happy to try and reproduce it from my end?

    Certainly I think it's clear the problem Support have because there is no problem with the SDL side of things that we can reproduce, so they would have to get accounts for products that are not even ours and then try to troubleshoot them with a user who doesn't even own the GroupShare instance.  Probably a little harsh to blame them for this. But we can try and work with you to find the root of the problem as it seems to be something specific to the files you are working with, your settings, your environment, your volumes... or something.  Please feel free to drop me an email on this and we can try and look at it together, if not this week then the next.
