An error has occurred while using the translation provider SDL Language Cloud Machine Translation: Value cannot be null

I had no problem using Cloud Machine Translation in SDL Trados Studio (Freelance) just a week ago. But now it's not working as it used to.

The message (in the message window) I first received about an hour ago while struggling to solve this problem was "An error has occurred while using the translation provider SDL Language Cloud Machine Translation: Value cannot be null" And now it says "No matches found or no lookup performed." in the Translation Results window. 

All my files have the same result, so I don't think that's the problem.

+ I only used 10% of my statistical machine translation characters.

+ My source text is Korean and target is English

Please help me, I have a deadline!

  • I think the first step would be to remove the provider from your settings and then add it back in again.  Make sure it isn't just a small glitch.

    But unfortunately I already have done that several times (+deleting my language pairs and re-adding them) and I got the same result. I'd even re-installed it too. What else can I do?

    - what version of Studio? (full version number)

    - what filetype?

    - which filetype in Studio are you using to handle the file?

    - does this happen with all projects or just this one?

    Here's my answer to your questions:

    - what version of Studio? (full version number)

    SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance (SR2 15.2.5.2145)

    - what filetype?

    Microsoft Word files (*.docx), or perhaps project file (SDL XLIFF)

    - which filetype in Studio are you using to handle the file?

    a single document (drop file)

    - does this happen with all projects or just this one?

    Yes, however all my files are in Word. Will this be the problem?

  • Please try a reset which is not the same as reinstalling. 

    Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0

    So the path would become this:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0_old

    If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

  • I changed the folder name by adding '_old' at the end and when I restarted the studio (selected a default option) a new folder was created.

    But MT is still not working Cry

    I am now contacting with Korean SDL support team. But their first suggestion did not work.

    So, I will be trying your way soon. I'll get back to you with the result. 

  • Anyone who has the same problem, please try this:

    1. Exit Studio

    2. Go to the folder 

    C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0 3

     

    3. And delete the following files

    -   BaseSettings.xml

    -   plugincache.xml

    -   UserSettings.xml

     

    4. Start Studio again.

     

    It solved my problem!!! lol

    + I don't know why this works and not changing the folder name (ex. 15.0.0.0 3_old)

    + I am experiencing a little latency (I didn't have any before using this solution)

    + I received this information from Korean SDL Support Team.

    In my case, when I delete these files -- still I am not able to access the SDL Language Cloud. Any thoughts?

    My new 15.0.0.0 (renamed the old one as recommended) does not have 3 appended.

    P.S. This is a very tiring bug. SDL Language Cloud keeps deserting you. (I normally try to manage without it when this happens. Hope that is not for long.)
