A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server unknown could not be established. Please check your connection settings

This is the error message I get when I try to open my own termbase in MultiTerm 2017. It is not connected to any server, so I do not know what the "connection settings" would be referring to.

I have tried to repair and uninstall/reinstall the software in addition to other suggestions made here, but to no avail. Latest attempt was to use SDL Freshstart. When I try to create a new termbase, I get the error message Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Is there any to be had? Thank you!

  • Hi

    Try this:

    1. Go to C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\
    2. Rename "MultiTerm14" folder - e.g "MultiTerm14_OLD"
    3. Go to the Windows Control Panel and run a MultiTerm repair

  • Hi; I have just suffered this same refusal to connect the new updated Multiterm 2019 to my termbase that I have been using for years. I tried the solution mentioned by Paul, but it didn't work. I then uninstalled and reinstalled all the Multiterm, including the recommended update, however, it still doesn't work and I get the same message - see screenshot.

Error message in Trados Studio stating 'A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server unknown could not be established. Please check your connection settings.' with an OK button.

Please can you offer any other solutions? Many thanks for your assistance.

    Regards / Michael Woolgar

  • It's helpful if you attach the error stack to your message and don't just share a screenshot.  Even if the message seems fmiliar there are other pieces of information in the stack that tell us about other things you didn't tell... such as your versions for example.  Just save the error as an XML to your desktop and then attach the error file to your message:

Error message in Trados Studio stating 'A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server unknown could not be established. Please check your connection settings' with an OK button and a link to SDL Community.

In the meantime please make sure you have updated both Studio and MultiTerm to the latest version:

    SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.5.2145

    SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.5.56289

  • Good morning and thank you. I just updated Trados to the 2145 version (it was 1041), and the Multiterm was updated yesterday. The Multiterm still reacted with the same message with the following details:

  • Good morning again; Multiterm is now working. I pressed "Reset Window Layout" and my TB appeared. Any further comments or suggestions will always be greatly appreciated, and I thank you for your kind assistance.

    Have a nice weekend
