Multiterm uninstall error: Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed. If you still wish to install this version, you must remove the other version first.

As I was uninstalling Studio and Multiterm 2019 today due to a lot of crashes in Studio (I was able though to reinstall successfully Studio), I could not uninstall Multiterm under Apps & Features:Apps & Features window showing SDL MultiTerm 2019 with options to Modify or Uninstall.

If I hit Uninstall, it launches the wizard and at the very end of it, I get this error message:

Error message from SDL MultiTerm 2019 setup stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed.'

However, if I go to the Start menu Multiterm is gone, I can only see a few folders left under the Programs folder and under the Documents.

I tried launching the latest version executable I just downloaded today, but I still get the same error message above. I am working with Win 10 and I noticed that the crashes started when I was trying to open older projects today, but at least that issue was solved by reinstalling Studio. Now I just need to get the latest version of Multiterm on my machine. Please advice.

  • Hello Paul, the error message refers to Multiterm, not Studio. Yesterday I have downloaded, installed and updated Studio to v.  Screenshot showing the version information of SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.6.2831., which should be the latest release as there are no new notification of new updates for Freelance.

The error message you see below happens both 1) during uninstalling my old version of Multiterm and 2) when trying to install the latest version I could install from my Account, which yesterday was SDLMultiTermDesktop2019_56053.exe. That did not work, I tried to launch it twice to no avail.

Now I have downloaded the latest zip from your ftp link and downloaded version SDLMultiTermDesktop2019_56482.exe. It worked! So my question is, why was this version not deployed to my account yesterday? It obviously contained that one patch I needed to overcome this issue. Thank you for your support.
