Multiterm uninstall error: Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed. If you still wish to install this version, you must remove the other version first.

As I was uninstalling Studio and Multiterm 2019 today due to a lot of crashes in Studio (I was able though to reinstall successfully Studio), I could not uninstall Multiterm under Apps & Features:Apps & Features window showing SDL MultiTerm 2019 with options to Modify or Uninstall.

If I hit Uninstall, it launches the wizard and at the very end of it, I get this error message:

Error message from SDL MultiTerm 2019 setup stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed.'

However, if I go to the Start menu Multiterm is gone, I can only see a few folders left under the Programs folder and under the Documents.

I tried launching the latest version executable I just downloaded today, but I still get the same error message above. I am working with Win 10 and I noticed that the crashes started when I was trying to open older projects today, but at least that issue was solved by reinstalling Studio. Now I just need to get the latest version of Multiterm on my machine. Please advice.

  • Hi all,

I experienced the same. I wanted to update both Trados 2024 and MultiTerm 2024 to their new version. Trados installation was flawless, but when installing MultiTerm, I got the same issue as described above. I tried to remove MultiTerm 2024 from Control Panel (and unfortunately did not use the "Remove suite of products" entry but uninstalled the MultiTerm 2024 apps individually).

Now, I'm completely stuck: Trying to use the "Remove suite of products" entry yields the same error, trying to install the new version yields it too. I also tried renaming the MultiTerm18 folder under C:\Users\Annette\AppData\Roaming\Trados\MultiTerm, but to now avail either.

    The version is:

Screenshot showing MultiTerm 2024 - Remove suite of products entry in the Control Panel with version 18.1.3.3567 and date 03.08.2025.

I found the link Paul indicated back then, but with the MultiTermDesktop2024SR1_18.1.2.3594.exe installer, it did not work.

What can I do to install MultiTerm again? Please help soon, I need my MultiTerm back!

    TIA

    Best regards

    Annette (from Manfred's compter)
