When I want to create a cross-reference in MUltiterm, I do not get "Manage a cross-reference" when I click right on the selected text, as explained in the user manuals. What do I do wrong?

Have you made sure that the field you want to create the cross-reference in is not "open" for editing? I fell into this trap a couple of times...
How do I close it? It seems to be open for editing all the time ....
Would you please post a screen shot of what you are doing?

I'm sorry, it took me a while, I'm a bit computer illiterate. I'm now again in the edit mode and there is no way I can turn it off, wherever I click
This is default view, so every field is editable.
You can only create cross references from text fields. Do not click in any text field, as this will activate editing. Instead, use mouse to select text and chose the kind of cross reference you want:

I don't manage to turn off this default view
and how do I get this black icon on my screen? I know I'm sounding very dumb ...
Default view layout is just fine.
Do you have ANY text fields with descriptions in your entry or entries? Only these will allow you to create cross references. If you have a text field, place the mouse cursor over the words you want to use for cross reference, click left and drag to select.

What exactly do you mean by text field?
I have an entry with some more text but where do I drag it to? I don't get this black icon on top of my screen like you have in your example?
You do not drag the text anywhere, just the cursor over the text, while the left mouse button is pressed. The same way, as would you select text in Word.
This is only possible on a text field. A text field is a descriptive field for additional information about your entry. This is NOT the term itself.

Well, I understand, but unfortunately it does not work. Does SDL have some sort of helpdesk?

It certainly works.
You are being helped here. Maybe someone from SDL will see this and contact you, but you already have all the information necessary here.
Do you know how to select text in Word using only mouse, without keyboard? If yes, try the same in MultiTerm. If not, open a Word document and try there.

I'm just not getting the same thing on the screen as you are showing me. When I do what you tell me to nothing happens ... I am grateful though, thank you for helping me out here. Either my package is not working properly or I'm overlooking a detail. But THANKS!!
I understand, but I have no other means to help you.
Please just enter some more text in your descriptive field. Save the entry by simply clicking another entry. Go back to the previous entry. Place the cursor over the text you entered before. Do NOT only click left, but left click AND move the mouse at the same time (simultaneously) over at least one word in the text in order to select it. You should see your options on the screen then.

Yes, thank you so much.
I'm trying to figure out how this community works. Please let me know if I can contribute in any way.
Well, you are already contributing. Your question has been answered and this may help others in the future. When someone else asks a question and you know the answer, post here—this is a forum for seeking help, getting help and helping others. And the best about it is, that when you help you learn more than if you ask.
