Trados Studio 2022, SR2 - 17.2.11.19134: adding server based termbases does not work

Hi

I'm having the same strange problem described in this thread:  Unable to open "Select termbases" window for server-based termbase

"

When I click on Use Server-based MultiTerm database, a window should appear to allow me to select the server, provide login credentials, etc.

However, this window (Select Termbases in the following screenshot) only appears in the background and is completely inaccessible. This prevents me from adding any server-based termbase to my projects.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing the 'Project Settings - Termbases' tab with no termbase added. A 'Select Termbases' window appears in the background, indicating an issue with window accessibility."

However, the provided solution does not work for me. (I have always had two monitors which work fine, but still can't get the "Select termbase" window to be displayed properly.) The same problem occurs in MultiTerm.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions on how to solve this :-).

If you wish to complain because CRQ-3167 hasn't fixed things then perhaps I can help.

First of all, if you leave the answers as verified your post is very likely to go unnoticed as we don't bother reading threads where a verified answer has been provided... too many other things to do!

Secondly, the AI isn't always correct and in this case I'm afraid it has sold you a dummy as CRQ-3167 is an item related to working with WorldServer Packages, which I don't think you are?  It's also different because yours opens yo just cannot get to it:

Screenshot of an SDL Change Request page with the title 'Window for log in to server termbase does not pop up when opening WorldServer package in Studio 2022'. It includes sections for Severity and Build Area, Additional Info, and DO NOT MODIFY.

I will correct the AI so it doesn't make the same mistake again.

If your problem is indeed that you want to complain that this hasn't been fixed let's work through this logically as there probably isn't anything to fix.  So just on case, can you confirm that you work with multiple monitor and still have both monitors connected when this problem occurs?  Have you also tried a reset as this may clear any settings that are being remembered?

To do this just close Trados Studio and then rename this folder:

    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17\

    to c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17_old\

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

Then restart Trados Studio and see if that helped.

If you want to complain about something else, and not a product issue we can discuss here, then please visit Trados.com where you can use the live chat to raise this with the team there and they'll be able to help.

  • Thank you so much for your reply  . I am happy to hear that I probably don't need to wait for an update.

You are correct, I'm not working with WolrdServer packages. I can also confirm that I work with multiple monitors and still have both monitors connected when this problem occurs.

I managed to do the reset you described, but unfortunately this didn't help. Do you know what to do next?

Also (and sorry if this is obvious), do you have a tip on how I can see that the answers are verified and how i can change this?

    Thanks again in advance!

On the verified answers bit.  In the thread, at the top right you'll see this summary which is helpful:

Sidebar widget showing a verified answer with a green checkmark, a thumbs-up icon, and various interaction options such as replies, answers, subscribers, views, and member presence.

You'll also see verified answers have a green border like this:

Forum post by a user named Paul replying to Anne Fox, discussing a quick test with a screenshot of software interface including text and code snippets.

In the list of posts you'll see this:

List of forum threads with titles, status icons indicating verified answers, suggested answers, and unanswered questions, along with view and reply counts.

    Green tick - verified answer(s)

    Orange tick - suggested answer(s)

    Question mark - unanswered

In the thread itself if you don't agree with the suggested answer or verified answer you can uncheck it using the "More" menu at the bottom of the post... or it may even show a button for it if you were the original poster.

So this one is a suggested answer as I checked the button to suggest the answer to this particular question.

    ok... a few ideas.

Yes, the issue of hidden or inaccessible windows in Trados Studio (or MultiTerm) can often be resolved by trying the following solutions:

    1. Bring the Hidden Window to the Foreground

    • Click on the Trados Studio taskbar icon to see if the window is listed as open.
    • Press Alt + Tab to cycle through open windows and check if you can bring it into focus.
    • If the window is open but invisible, try pressing Alt + Space, then M, and use the arrow keys to move the window back onto the screen.

    2. Check for Off-Screen Windows

If you're using multiple monitors or have changed display settings, the window might be off-screen:

    • Hold Shift and right-click the Trados Studio taskbar icon.
    • Select Move, then use the arrow keys to move the window back into view.
    • Alternatively, press Windows + Shift + Left/Right Arrow to shift the window between monitors.

    3. Reset Window Layout

    In Trados Studio:

    • Go to ViewReset Window Layout.

    4. Update Graphics Drivers & Windows Display Settings

    • Ensure that your display drivers are up to date.
    • If you’ve recently changed DPI scaling, try reverting to 100% (default) and restart your PC.

    5. Reinstall SDL Trados Studio

If nothing works, uninstall Trados Studio, then reinstall.

See if something here helps you.

  • Brilliant! Thank you so much! The "Alt + Space, then M" option worked.

    Have a lovely evening!

  • Thank you! I think I understand now. As I verified your last answer, this post has one verified answer. Is this correct? I was under the impression that there were other verified answers as well (as I, as you mentioned, had left answers verified), but somehow I can't see them now. Anyway, this reply is very useful and I will make sure to keep a  lookout for wrongfully verified answers in the future.

    That’s because I unverified them ;-)
