Strange, but this finds any space before punctuation marks, not only at segment end: [\u0020\u00A0][\.,!;:?]
Not "strange", incorrect. It should not be necessary to go through "mental exercises" to code a regex workaround for what appears to be a bug.
BTW The period does not need to be escaped in a class, [.,!;:?] suffices
Also, Unicode categories can be used simplify (and generalise) the regex to \p{Zs}\p{P}, although this might be too general

Thank you for the hints about regex. This one has been created several years ago, when I was starting to learn it. At that time I obviously did not know \s
In the meantime I have found your books on Amazon and bought these, so in case of doubt I'll be consulting them.
