a mess with TM

Question

Hi Community, 
 I've got a big mess with my TM. I'm a beginner and have started a translation from German into English. As I couldn' t found an supported TM with this language pair, I used AnyTM. And in order to get some help with vocabulary I downloaded MyMemory. Somehow this created itself a MyMemory- original and one MyMemory - TM. 
 In the meantime I have 4 TM's at the same time - (MyMemory-orig./MyMemory/AnyTM/AnyTM-rev. 
 I have no idea, whether this is the smartest or reasonable way to translate. I have the dim feeling that it makes no sense at all but I don't know how to deal with it. 
 And one more thing I don't understand. When I translate and miss a colon or any punctuation, Trados does't punish it it or even inform me. How can I make proper settings here? 
 I'd really appreciate your help!

Hi Ela K. 
 Quite a few questions in here, so let's try and understand this a bit better.

 What language pair is your project? Be specific, de(DE) - en(GB) for example. So what flavour of English and German is it? You used AnyTM because the TM you used must have been different languages, or language flavours. Do you know what languages it was? Also why did you use this existing TM if you are a beginner? Any reason why you didn't just create one that matched your Project languages? 
 A little more information around why you made these decisions would help us give you a better answer.

 I guess you mean you downloaded and installed the plugin from the appstore? Or did you download some TMX from MyMemory? I'm not familiar enough with the options for MyMemory so I usually only see people using this as an online thing and I don't understand how you got to the MyMemory and MyMemory-orig thing?

 If you added a TM that was for example en(GB) - de(DE) in a project that was de(DE) - en(GB), so it's the wrong way around, then AnyTM will still support this and will create the AnyTM-Rev to allow you to use the wrong TM correctly. So perhaps this is all your problem is here? You have a TM in the wrong direction and you added it with AnyTM?

 This would be in your QA settings. So go to your Project Settings -> Verification -> QA Checker 3.0 -> Punctuation

I think you are getting confused here. When you create a TM you will never be asked to use AnyTM. This only happens if you select an existing TM that doesn't match the language of your Project. I think you are either trying to add a TM that is the opposite direction to the one you want, or you created the Project with the languages the wrong way around in the first place. 
 
If you have Studio 2017, and I guess you have, then you don't really need to worry about AutoSuggest. You have Fragment Matching that does something very similar only in realtime, so in many ways it's superior to using AutoSuggest Dictionaries. 
 
You are getting these different memories with AnyTM because you are trying to use a TM that doesn't match the languages of your Project. If you insist on working this way then don't do anything with it, you need it! 
 
If I was you I'd go back to the beginning and look very carefully at the steps I was following, and I would make sure that the TMs I have are what I think they are. Perhaps we can look at this together over Skype tomorrow. It'll be a lot easier to see what you are doing wrong if I can see your screen. All you have to do is add it with AnyTM. If you remember, and if you look at your File -> Options as a reminder, you'll see we added the DGT TM using AnyTM. This is because we created it in one direction only and that was EN -> DE. So if your message is that DE-EN is not supported it's because your current translation is in the other direction. So this is just the software reminding you what we did. 
 
AnyTM allows you to use the DGT TM we created in both directions as a read only TM because we also made sure the update button was not checked.

Hi Ela K. , the reason there are two is because one of them will be the reverse. Remember I told you that if you use it for a project in the opposite direction that it will automatically create the reverse TM. But you should never connect to the reverse one, always keep using AnyTM with the version we created together and the software will keep the TMs in synch for projects in either direction.
