Cursor jumping out of Studio target segment while Multiterm recognises terms

Yesterday I started using a new computer with Windows 10 and Office 2016. I installed and updated the latest versions of Studio and Multiterm. Since then, the cursor always jumps out of the Studio target segment while Multiterm is recognising and marking terms in the source segment. I've just now discovered that I can return the cursor to the target segment by pushing on F6, as well of course as using the mouse, but this is awfully frustrating extra trouble.

I see nothing about this in the Knowledge Base. Hopefully someone knows a solution!

  • Hello Lingua Norðan Jökuls (LinguaNorðan Jökuls) ,

This is an issue that has been reported a couple of occasions, but so far we have so far not been able to reproduce the source of the problem.

However, as you have stated you have started to use a new W10 machine-

I suspect this might have something to do with drivers and/or keyboard/mouse/mouse pad (mouse pad could be too sensitive for instance).

First of all I would suggest ensuring ALL of your drivers (Mouse, Touchpad and Keyboard device drivers) are up-to-date (using a new Windows machine, may mean your drivers are already outdated)

Ensure that the Mouse battery is OK.

Run your antivirus software scan to rule out the possibility of some malware causing this.

    Does any of this help?

  • I even put in a new battery on one mouse, and took the time to have these drivers checked, but in every case except for one having to do with anti-virus defence the drivers were all up to date. The problem, however, continues.
  • Hello Lingua Norðan Jökuls (LinguaNorðan Jökuls),

Thanks for getting back to me.

As this issue so rarely occurs and we are unable to recreate it, it seems to be a trial and error situation until we can identify the culprit.

Can you try disabling the track/mouse pad (if you are using a Laptop).

    Does this make any difference?

  • I had checked this page the first couple of days but then gave up. Somehow this site never sends me an e-mail when there is a reply even though through the years I have always requested it. In any case, I am using a laptop, but seldom the mouse and keyboard on it; instead, I have an ergonomic keyboard and two mice to go with it. Under Settings and Mouse Properties, four mice are listed though I only know of three. Moreover, I don't know which one is the one on the laptop, though I think it must be the one which is said to be located "on I2C HID Device". However, the buttons in Mouse Properties that are labelled Disable Device don't seem to do anything at all when I click on them. The problem with the disappearing cursor still persists and is a terrible one because I always have to move the mouse mechanically to the next target segment in Studio, whereas I only want to use keyboard shortcuts when completing a segment and generally want the mouse cursor to be positioned at some more useful place on my two screens.
