I asked the client to send me a new version in case it is a problem with the file.

I have the same problem. You suggest checking unsupported versions before creating one's project. But where does one find the unsupported versions listed? Basically all file versions as already checked, including CS4 idm, but I find nowhere to check the unsupported CS5 idm version. I would therefore appreciate if you could give a more specific instruction.

It seems I found the "Unsupported version" option after all when clicking on the IDML filter during the creation of the project. Only problem is that the idml files still are imported as reference files and not translatable files.

Is this the option you tried? You would need to select it before processing the files for it to take effect.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, the option was checked, but I found that the problem seems to have been related to Windows and not Studio, since I found I could import the idml files fine on a different machine I had.

Now I've reinstalled Windows on the machine I normally work on, but I have problems installing Studio for some reason. I am not able to install Studio, but get the message "Microsoft .NET framework 4.7.1 cannot be installed", which blocks the installation of the whole Studio package. The error number is 5100.

I suppose you are referring to this InDesign CC version… Right?

Well, when using these Adobe InDesign CS4-CC IDML file type filter settings:

I never faced any issue when creating, opening, processing and saving back an IDML project (no matter if the original IDML file is a 12.1.0 [InDesign CC 2017], 13.1 [InDesign CC 2018] or 14.0.1 [InDesign CC 2019] version).

The only thing I may suppose is that your IDML file is somehow corrupted. And if you have Adobe InDesign installed on your computer, try to regenerate/save again the IDML file (better from an INDD file).

sorry for my late reply. At this time I worked with the version 12.1.0 and 13.1. of InDesign. With this versions all is working fine. Now I installed the newest version of Indesign (14.0.2.) and the IDML-Files doesn't work. Trados is also in the newest version installed.

I tried with one file of version 13.1. which was converted to 14.0.2. and than saved to IDML. This doesn't work.

I created a new file with 14.0.2. and saved it to IDML. This also doesn't work.

So in this case I can't use InDesign 14.0.2. to translate the files with Trados 2019.

I found a workaround, until SDL updates the filter for IDML files:

- Do not uninstall InDesign 2018 when you upgrade to 2019; Adobe made some changes in the code in the latest version, and Studio no longer recognizes the IDML files created with InDesign 2019. (If you uninstalled it, you can re-download it from your account)

- Before creating your project, open your IDML in InDesign 2018, and re-export the IDML (overwrite your file), and Studio will now recognize it and process it properly. 

- After translation, simply open your IDML in the version of your choice, it should all go well.

I have done this since the release of InDesign 2019, and it worked every time.
