Trados 2017: when confirming a segment it takes a long time, but eventually the segment is not confirmed and does not move to the next segment

Hi,

I installed yesterday Trados 2017 new and MT. When I started to work I realized, when using "confirm and move to next unconfirmed segments" it takes a long time in which is seems that the program is working on this comman and confirming the segment, but eventually the curser remains in the same segment and does not move any further. I can proceed and go to the next segment by using the arrow, but that does not confirm. Anything could have gone wrong during the installation? First I thought that my connection might be to slow as I am working with Worldserver, but that cannot be the case, because that in the end the segment should be confirmed. Who can help? Thank you

  • I have read some articles in between with regard to similar matters. I ran the Repair function and how the segments are confirmed. But it still takes en enourmous time to get that done. I ran a speed test, result: Download 5,77 Mbps and Upload 19,5 Mbps. It is my first time working with a TM from Worldserver, could this speed be too slow for the working procedure? Thank you!

  • Hello ,

I doubt this has anything to do with your internet speed which is indeed ok.

If the issue is only with WS projects- and not with local projects- then there is obviously something wrong.

First of all, please add your Studio and MultiTerm to your AntiVirus 'whitelist'- even if you have done this before, you may need to do this again as updates will often break the configuration.

Next if the problem still persists, then its worth checking your Studio settings

Here - ensure Enable Verification of Segment is disabled-

Trados Studio settings window with 'Enable Verification of Segment' option highlighted and disabled.

If you have maybe The Grammar Checker enabled- please disable this in your QA settings.

Has any of this helped you?

  • Hi again

This isn't a 'known solution' but I find that if I turn off upLIFT/Match Repair in Project Settings for the project that is 'going slow', everything works much faster when I have a huge/old/complex file or TM/termbase that is slowing everything down...

Trados Studio Project Settings window showing Match Repair option turned off to improve performance on complex files.

It's worth a try... I won't mark this as 'suggest as answer' in case it doesn't help!

    All the best,

    Ali

  • HI Alison, Thank you again. I had found this option in another article and enabled the edtir in Match Repair. That did not bring any more speed through. Trados Studio screenshot showing an error message about UPFIT Match-Optimierung with options for Editor and Batch-Tasks toggled on.

  • HI Steven, thank you. I checked it with a local project and there Trados reacts perfect and in no time. I am working on a Mac (on paralells on Windows 10) and I do not have an antivirus installed. I have also deactivated the verification function, but it still did not get any faster.

  • HI again, deactivating the grammar checker, does this refer to these options:

Trados Studio settings window showing options under 'Active Spell Checker' with 'Hunspell Spell Checker' selected. Options include 'Check spelling as you type', 'Ignore words in UPPERCASE', 'Ignore words with numbers', 'Ignore Internet and file addresses', 'Ignore email addresses', and 'Ignore Segment Types' with 'Locked', '100% matches', and 'Context matches and PerfectMatches' checkboxes.

  • Hi Alison, I have now also disabled "Look Ahead" as I found this in some answers to a similiar request. Did not help either. Yesterday I reinstalled Trados and also Windows on Paralells was reinstalled because there were too many snapshots which needed too much space. Before reinstalling Trados and Windows, I did not have this issue, also working with the Worldserver. So it must be something else. I wonder if updating Trados again, might help? I do not have another idea.

  • Hi again

I've only just noticed that had already replied to you. In case he doesn't see your question straight away, here are an extra few tips:

As his screenshot indicates... In Studio, go to File > Options > Editor > Automation > After confirming segments manually

Then uncheck 'Enable verification of segment' which stops any of the tasks you have ticked under 'Project Settings > Verification' (and beyond) from being performed when you confirm a segment.

Where he suggests turning off the Grammar Checker, he isn't referring to the spellchecker. He's referring to a plug-in available on the SDL AppStore that checks grammar...

    MS Word Grammar Checker

If you have this installed, it helps to turn this off while working until you've finished translating then use it at the end along with the verification.

Then when you finish translating, you can run a spell check on the document via the Review Tab > Check Spelling (or by pressing F7) then a Verification via the Review Tab > Verify (or by pressing F8) and all the tasks you have ticked under 'Project Settings > Verification' and beyond will be performed.

I hope this extra information helps...

    All the best,

PS I won't check my Community messages for the rest of today as I have to focus on a big, difficult project I'm working on Wink

  • PS: did you disable 'Look Ahead' via File>Options or via Project Settings? I ask because Project Settings always overrule profile settings, i.e. those made via File>Options, so you need to have that option turned off in the settings for the project you're working on...

  • Thanks Ali, did all that and checke and made these changes in the project setting. Nothing helped. However, you are off now and will see, what I can do.
