Please confirm if you are referring to the use of the API as a developer?  You have posted into a developer forum and I want to make sure I don't move this somewhere else if you are looking for help as a developer.

I just use SDL Trados Studio 2019 as a translator. I posted it here as I did not really know where to actually raise my concern.

ok - I have moved it to the Trados Studio forum as it makes more sense to be in here.  On your concerns, can you elaborate a little?

We currently only offer Burmese (Myanmar) as you noted.  But what are the differences that prevent you from using this flavour for your work?  For example:

• font defaults can be changed, so this shouldn't be an issue.  I installed the KNU font and mapped it as follows:
  
  
  
• are there other differences in auto-localization settings for example that would prevent you from using Burmese (Myanmar) as a substitute language?

I know it would be nicer to be able to select the exact language you need, but perhaps working with Burmese (Myanmar) could work for you.  In the meantime why not suggest we add this language through http://ideas.sdl.com

Thanks. However, I still cannot use Karen. And besides, why shouldn't we change this setting? The language (Bislama) remains unchanged though I changed it.

Please can you answer my questions?  It's clear you cannot select Karen because it's not a variant we have available.  But what are the reasons why you cannot select Burmese (Myanmar) as a substitute language when you work?  I'm trying to help you work now.

I am not suggesting you should not be able to change this.  I'm saying it's currently not an option and there is nothing you can do to make it available.  It will require development work in Trados Studio to add this variant which is why I suggested you raise this as an idea.  I note you have done which is good.  It also gets my vote:

I don't know why.  Maybe you didn't click on OK after changing it?  I closed Studio, went back to the options and still see KNU as the preferred font for Burmese (Myanmar).

Incidentally, is Bislama relevant here?  Maybe this is just the default display?  This doesn't mean you are using this.  The one you use will be the target language you are working in.  If Bislama is not the one you selected please scroll to the one you selected and see what font is there.

Hey Paul. What language do you suggest we use for TM purposes? We do both Burmese and Karen and simply naming Burmese as Karen does not appear to work.

Tell me why not?  What's missing here?  The TM is just a database... I could use English for any language I wanted if I didn't need to worry about some of the automated stuff the TM provides.  So what exactly prevents you from using Burmese for Karen?

I don't mean to sound blunt here, but given we don't seem to support Karen as it's not a language supported by windows, please provide a few more details on why you could not apply this workaround?

The Myanmar Unicode font needs a Karen keyboard to be able to use Karen. I found the Keyboard and I now can use Karen in Trados. Thanks for your help.
